Hi , i have a 93 348 and have been informed by my mechanic that the cam belt needs changing. Since I do not have a history for the car and having read the damage it can cause I will go ahead with this. What are the parts typically that need to be changed to carry out the job apart from the belt itself, since the car is in India and no fdealers here, we do not know this. Also does anyone have the workshop manual procedure to carry out this work. Please let me know.

If you have limited facilities to have your car repaired at the drop of a hat i would recomend looking into having other service jobs done while the engine is out, oil leaks fixed, valve clearences done etc.If you have no history with the car imo you can't afford to miss anything out, (an oil leak cost me an alternator!).

The biggest part you'll need is a fat wallet. The heck with that silly mechanic. What does he know, anyway?

The workshop manual doesn't explain the job. Do a search of the archives, there is planty of info on how to do it yourself.
