You registered a domain related to another make just to redirect the expected traffic to your sites? If that is the case... what's up with that? Threatened by people being interested in any other site??
1] Boo 2] Boohoohoo 3] Both Spleen-venters: is sending a site-owner/administrator a PM, email or equivalent out of the question?
Cherm, A fairly useless post--Exactly what are you talking about? If it is a real issue, how about giving the details so we can judge for ourselves?
Not useless at all. It's a highway robbery when come to think of it. Rob, do the right thing and let go of the domain.
My point was, that most of us here didnt know what URL was being referenced by Cherm. If he had a point to make then why not let everyone know what exactly he was talking about. Not a complicated concept-actually. Why make the post so cryptic?
Okay, i agree with KDS... My reservations with Rob aside, , i would like someone to expound on why this is a bad idea or trecherous or underhanded or whatever... i think it's an awesome marketing idea... How come some think it's bad...?
So that's how you always start making your points, with an insult ? Lambo - power . com is a competing Lamborghini site, Rob Lay bought ********** . com without the dash and linked it to Fchat. Now what do you think ?
<wailing and gnashing of teeth>Oh, no! How terrible!</wailing and gnashing of teeth> So, using example of lotuschat.com, this businessman should have done what you'll see if you click the link below instead of redirecting to f-chat? lotuschat.net
Copyright folks like whart will probably want to chime in soon. My recollection is that there are some instances of people registering domain names that are somewhat similar to major ones - like disneey.com or something - that will actually take you to somewhere like a porn site, and that this is not ok. whart can probably tell us more about how the courts treat such cases.
But how is Rob stealing...? Trust me, i'm the first one to jump on the bandwagon when someone's gonna jump in Rob's ****, , but i really don't see how this is stealing... Lamblow Power is a different story altogether, though... The owner was a member here and then banned... He caused much trouble over here, so Rob just created a similar URL of his site and redirected it here... Pretty clever, i think... Otherwise, though, i don't see how it's stealing... i'm honestly curious about this and open to what you know... Thanks...
It's a waste of time to try to convince those who don't see the miliciousness of this act, it takes a blind man not to see the evilness in it.
Malice.....and it's variant's as defined online............ 1 : desire to cause pain, injury, or distress to another 2 : intent to commit an unlawful act or cause harm without legal justification or excuse ---------------------------- Well.....since registering that domain name does not meet the test of Webster's dictionary I'd say my vision is 20/20.
Rakjoe, Please do me a favor and point out the exact phrase in my post that was an insult--I would be curious to see what you found insulting. So far I have commented on the usefulness of the original post-Which lacked any information to allow us to make a proper decision, hence the post-not the issue behind the post was useless. Second I asked for the URL (Which still has not been supplied by Cherm. (Yes others have-But not the originator of the post.) Third ,I commented with respect to my own post as to the "complexity" of given said information. Finally I asked an interrogative with respect to the "obscure" nature of the post.
The owner of *********** should have registered several iterations from inception to protect himself. Rob took initiative when that owner was snoozing. I'd be interested to hear about the copyright issues as well; but at the moment - seems like a wise move to me.
Please disregard all the insult BS, try to wright www.***********.com (lambo - power . com) here or in your profile and see what happens. Self explenatory IMO.
It is unethical if it was an unrelated URL ie. kidsafety.org being redirected to fchat. But ferrarichat and ferraricorner and ferraritalk all are perfectly ok. Lambotalk and lotuschat...slightly iffy since this is FERARRI oriented, but still, it's cars, and there is an "other cars and motorcycles" section here. Weak, but you could make a case for it, I guess. Thing is, why bother? Did lambochat pose any competitive concerns? Did lotuschat? Rob?
Rakjoe Just looked at your profile and saw that you have a URL called ***********.com. Why didn't you mention this up front! Would have made the jist of your comments a bit more understandable. Not all of us here know (or necessarily care) that you had a website with a name very close to the one Rob registered. So the issue for you moves from a general issue to a personal issue. No problem with that-so why not, as I have mentioned before (The whole point of all of my posts so far!) make it clear to the rest of us exactly what the issue is and what the facts are. Given that you have a site that I assume you want to benefit from, either thru sponsors or just from people visiting, then you probably have a legitimate issue with Rob over the "closeness" of his URL to yours. For you it comes too close to a premeditated effort to "rob" you of "site hits". With respect to that I would concur that, legal or not, it smacks just a little too much of bad form.
Rakjoe, that's a competitor's site, and there is bad blood between fchat and that site. Typing the site name on here will cause it to become a URL link that people can click on to take them to the other site. Is it wrong to not want to drive traffic to your competitor, especially if you don't like him? Also, why don't you answer impdesigner's questions?
