Waldo...great pix. Gotta be a rush flying that machine. I dont immagine its too fast over the fence. Grew up in Vallejo in the 50's. On to Vacaville and the Brigadoon Restaurant(family business). Bet you spent a lot of time at Schellville Airport. Love Sonoma. Just enough fog in the summer to keep it cool. Thanks, and dont feel shy about posting. Most of the guys I rattle back and forth with here like airplanes. Especially ones that go fast and shoot. ss

Art Vance of Santa Rosa flew my chene during the first two weeks of filming of The Tuskegee Airmen at Muskogee, Ok, circa 3-95. His son "Sho-Nuff" Vance flew the last two weeks of production at Ft Smith, Ak. What a ball we had. My son Brant was hired by the production co. as a set asst. Pix of Vance Jr in black face. Only 3 and only 2 of those are true B's.1 in England with Steven Gray, another with Kermit Weeks in Florida. John Paul in Bosie is working on one, but its mostly D model with mods. John Muzalla's Fighter Rebuilders in Idaho Falls just finished an all new 2 seat B for Max Chapman of Jackson Hole. Another B or B lookalike crashed last year. Dont know who owned it. Killed the Pilot. None with Malcom hoods.

    Sparky,

A few more to keep the thread alive...

I used to drive by the Nut Tree Airport all the time on the way to Tahoe.

I'm usually a lurker, gthering info on the F355 and TR. By the time I finish two years in Korea, I will definitely be ready for a new toy. Fly safe.

Hi Waldo. Great shot of you almost hooked up to the gas station. Aside from close formation, the stab the bastet, must be the next most difficult task to do. Dont suppose you have to catch the third wire with that rig. This site is why I finally got a TR. Bryan Crall, a consultant here, led me to Brandon Lawrence of Sports Car Italiano in Burlingame. I was so inpressed with him that I bought the car over the phone, with the provision tha Bryan do a PPI with a positive outcome. Ive got the phone nos for you if and when you are ready. Have spent a lot of time at the lake. Pix of us a few years ago out of Meeks Bay. Keep the 55 Hacker in the hanger with all the rest of the other JUNK. I'l send some interior pix of the 51 later. Keep your rudder out of the mud. ss

I almost bought a 1942 Chris Craft barrelback last year. But it was mostly a pattern boat. Every board would have needed replacing. All I was really getting was an engine, steering wheel, gauges, and some chrome trim. I passed. Then I found a 1951 Chris Craft 45 foot Corsair but it would have cost me thousands to transport even if I got it for free. But I've still got my eyes on a derelict 1951 49 footer. Too many projects, not enough time. Nice Hacker. Where can I find a triple cockpit Hacker or Garwood for cheap? (right next to the derelict P-51 I'm sure!!!)

You bet...lottsa Hacker and Gar wood tripples out there. Just like you thought, in the same warehouse where all the WW II fighters are. The days of these things being 'just around' is just not gonna happen. Allthough, I do know where an Allison V-1710-145 is. Brand new in a crate in a farmers very large barn near Woodland, ca. The last time I went there and tried to buy it, he told me never to come back. That was about 20 years ago. Perhaps he has gone to the happy hunting ground by now and if thats the case just maybe I can deal with his wife. Goulish bastard I am.

Sparky, I know a guy who told me that he has a P-38 engine, whichever model number that might be. And I don't doubt that he does because he collects all kinds of old antique motors and electronic equipment. He runs (or did run) his own company. He's probably technically retired. He's been scrounging at every antique swap meet around the country for years. I ran across a guy with a rotary Franklin(?) engine a few years ago. He said it came out of some kind of airplane. I'm not up on my rotaries. I've heard of Wright Cyclone that was used in the B-17, other planes, and a few tanks. But haven't run across any myself. Ran across an old Lockeed Loadstar (I believe) a few years ago that was wasting away at the local airport. Owner had to set it down on a ferry flight and never came back to get it. Supposedly had an extra engine or two with it.

    Sparky,

Thanks for the recommendation for Sports Car Italiano. My timeframe for a purchase would be in the fall/winter of 2006. I still haven't made up my mind as to what I want. I am drawn to the F-cars, but the maintenance makes me a little hesitant. I have plenty of time to decide.

I'll leave you with one last Harrier pic. This was taken from inside the boom operator's seat in a KC-10. We don't use the Air Force boom, but the boom operator still controls the flow of fuel through the basket.

Yep, a very nice TR with all the correct history and services, brought to me by nice people. Thanks for the pix Waldo. Drop on by anytime. Fly safe kid. FLY...lots of Lockeed Load-Bricks out there. Hell, theres two at our airport. They were great airplanes in their day. Fast, easy to land, stable platforms with good engines. Now rotting away. Sad, but cant save them all. Sure like to find an Allison eng. Run down those leads. A core is worth 25k. Find enough old junk that crazy people like me want and buy a Ferrari or some other toy. Sparky,

If the good Lord called us tomorrow, you would definitley win. You have the most toys. That P-51 is awesome. I think I could forgo a F-Car if I had a P-51. The last P-51s I saw were at NAS Oceana about a year and half ago. I forget what the special occasion was, but there were two or three P-51s and the Confederate Air Force's F4U sitting on the transient ramp when we landed.

I've always been partial to the F4U (it's a Marine thing). I had previously met the Confederate Air Force F4U pilot (for the life of me, I can't remember his name) at the Midland Airshow about six years ago. He gave me the nickel tour of his airplane. I met a second F4U owner at an Indiana air show about 4 years ago. This gentleman was a former Marine Pilot who has since done quite well in the banking business. I can't remember his name either, but I will never forget his F4U. If I ever hit the lottery...

    Cheers,

    waldo
