Why me? I encourage everyone to use 'test pipes' on their car for all track work...just not for use on the street.

Take your cats to a good muffler shop and they will fabricate test pipes for you in a couple of days. They will not install them for you but that part is easy. This will save you big bucks.

    Paul

And after 20 years those cats are shot anyway.

    Test pipes on a 308 QV=
-gas fumes that will burn your eyeballs
    +better high rpm sounud
-more resonance in the car(ear numbing)
no measurable HP gains. I had an '84 years ago and dyno'd before and after the test pipes. All the curves stayed the same and HP gain was under 1hp.

I strongly disagree with one point you make - it will not burn your eyeballs, it will MELT your eyeballs. Even if you are 2 cars behind it!

I would agree that removing the cats makes a negligible difference in hp. But it does increase the volume of the exhaust note! I removed them on my previously owned 78 308 GTS, then took it to a dyno shop where they rejetted the carbs. Slight increase in hp by richening the mains.

Maybe that's true, but I found that the car would rev up FASTER and the engine area and rear storage/trunk area stays cooler.

Always pay via credit card, and you're always protected from these kinds of things that occasionally go wrong. I had a similar problem with a high-flow catalytic converter I ordered, was charged but never delivered. The guy wouldn't return emails or calls. I called the credit card company and they immediately credited back the full amount.

I used that amount to order a HyperFlow cat from Dan at Ricambi, and my cat was delivered the next day! Gotta love Ricambi.

I am sorry you had a bad experience. I do not know who Dan is or how long he has been there but; Back in 98 or 99 I ordered a test pipe for a track event in Atlanta. I had it shipped to the shop that had my car. I found out when I went to pick it up that Stebro did not have a pipe on the shelf for my car. They were told by my mechanic that it was for a track event that weekend. Someone up there somewhere somehow (the details escape me now) stayed late making one and had it expressed shipped to make sure I had it in time. I thought that was pretty good customer service. I already had a Tubi but if I didn't I would have skipped it and bought their exhaust.

Again I am sorry you weren't treated better then you were.

Did the throttle response stay the same with the HyperFlow vs Test pipe? I may get one of those things.

Do a search here for "Durable 1" or "Durable One" or "Kermit" -- lots of info and opinions (good and not so good) about the company.

do a search on stebro exhaust, numerous stories about Dan. I hear the product is good, its just the service from them that is sub par.

I was considering Hyper flow cat and Stebro exhaust, but have other priorities on the car right now.
