The new July 2005 Road & Track shows on page 21 what is reported to be the New Dino and reports that it is based on what was to be the new Maserati Coupe and Spider...a front engined 4.2 liter V-8 400+ hp for a lot less then $ 170,000. It looks to me like the prototype that has been seen leaving the factory a lot recently online. A shrunken 612 2 seater with Enzo or 430 tailights that a lot of people online thought was the 575 replacement.
The front end in the magazine looks sharp and they talk about production of 3000 of them. Personally I wish if they were going to be inspired by the past that they would have started with a Lusso or a 246 Gts and make it a real lightweight, but simpler then an F430.
    What does everybody think?????

Just saw the new Road and Track and noticed that maybe 2 years out a new entry level Ferrari is possible.

The back looks hideous. Too much flat space. I hope that the real car is nothing like that

Even if they make a new Dino badged as a Ferrari, which I cannot IMAGINE Ferrari doing, it must must must not be front engine.

350Z lines, and looks very Japanese. Doesn't look Italian at all, or exotic for that matter... Sigh...

The yellow one above reminds me of a Vette...

'Ferrari is said to be extremely concerned that such a model could devalue its brand'

It would be a money-maker, but I'm not sure it would be a good thing for the brand image. Ferrari = exclusive. Mess with that, and the whole game changes.

It might work if it had a V8, but not a V6. Nobody wants a V6 Ferrari.

The entry level is already more then 200k. What do you think a cheaper Ferrariesque priced car will be 150-160k? Still exclusive, imo. I always thought the 360 and Dino were so much a like, a more modern Dino. I wonder if they will label it just a Dino like the first one, or call it a Ferrari Dino like the laters. I suspect they will call it a Ferrari Dino so ppl can still feel good about owning a Ferrari, rather then owning a Dino.

I don't know about that - I'd prefer to drive any of Ferrari's previous V6 models to any of the road going V8s they have produced (with the exceptions of the 288 GTO & F40).

Gimme a Dino 246 GT (in blue if you please) over a new F430 any day of the week.

If they drop near the $100K mark (article said 100K euro), it would take some of the luster off the Ferrari name, especially seeing the depreciation curve on the Maserati's. You would have nearly-new Ferrari's selling for new 911 and SL500 prices. I don't think Ferrari wants to go there.

I don't see any chance that they would sell a 'Dino' and not call it a Ferrari.
When you have the most revered brand name in the world, you use it. Wisely, I hope...

LOL... Warren is right. A Dino is a Dino because it's a V6.

I say keep the Dino name and keep it separate from Ferrari. Just like the original. And just like the original, everyone knows, it's made by Ferrari. And just like the original, give it a v6 thus again, separating it from Ferrari.
