Oh, I started from a chrome Ferrari horse, so there weren't any lines to follow. That's easy to change, I just need to redo the interior cuts to match the Black horse on the shields and badges. That would have been easier too. I'll see what I can do in the next few days. Thanks Tina.
Your'e welcome if you need it... i have a picture of the ferrarihorse... without anything in the background... ready to use.. and pretty large Just let me know
OK. I've been having fun today (my day off actually). I drew up and cut out a Cavallino Horse designed directly off of the Ferrari shields, with a few minor changes to keep the metal in one piece. I did it three ways... 1. The first photo is with the torch burn marks still on the steel. 2. In the second it has been wire-brushed a nice silver. The third photo is a closeup of the brushed silver. 3. The fourth photo is after I blackened it with gun blueing and clear-coated it. I like the black best. I can also simply paint it a solid color if that's what you want. I like the texture and slight irridescent colors the blueing has in different lighting (it's not a solid black). Is this more what you had in mind? Thor Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think the brushed silver looks fabulous against a black background. I'd probably mount it on a dark wall or a nicely edged piece of black wood or plexiglass. I like the black too, but probably only if mounted on a white or off-white wall. It doesn't look right to me to have a colored wall/background show through the various holes. You did a great job handling the "loose" lower leg, by the way!
Thanks! I'm glad you like it! Mine is hanging in my home office already. I quoted Tina $75 + shipping for a 2 ft tall one. Within the US, shipping and packaging materials are $20. Shipping to the Netherlands would be around $100, just in case you guys are further away. I can cut and finish a couple on Saturday (tomorrow) but I'll be on airplanes for work all next week, so after tomorrow you'll have to wait a week for me to get back. Next weekend I'll be able to do other sizes and Horses with bases welded on too. I estimated a 3 ft one (twice the steel and work) at $150 + $30 shipping and a 1 ft one at $40 + $10 shipping and packaging. PayPal works using my email address of "[email protected]". For Credit Cards, hopefully I'll have time in the evenings next week to get a basic web page set up if you prefer that. I'll check my email periodically while I'm traveling next week as well. Thor
Can you still do them in aluminum sheet also? Shipping will be less, and when it's hanging on the wall, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. By the way, how DO they get hung on the wall?
Yes, I can do Aluminum plate if that's what you like. The steel is quite heavy in comparison. I have quite a bit of steel around because I do medieval armor for fun as well. If you look at the close up of the silver horse, you'll see I've hung it with a brass nail through one of the holes at the top of the neck. The hole is a part of the original Ferrari logo. Here's a couple of shots of armor I've made, in case you're curious.... The elbow isn't finished in the photo. Thor Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Aluminum would actually cost you more. Aluminum 24"x24"x0.118" is $27.80 Hot Rolled Carbon Steel 24"x24"x14 gage is about $12.00. A steel horse would cost about $8 more to ship than Alimunim since it's heavier, but even with that steel is still cheaper. Most of the cost of the Cavallino Horse is in labor anyway, for setting up the machine and doing the cutting, chipping the cutting slag off the piece is the most time consuming, then sanding and filing all the edges so they aren't sharp, and finally wire brushing, cleaning and clear-coating. It takes a couple of hours to make the 24" one. I'm even throwing in the 2 hours of drafting it took to make the pattern for free (I was making one for myself anyway).
How heavy is the steel one? Can I hang it on a typical garage door without the door coming off the hinges? I think they look great. Now I have to convince my wife that the purchase is necessary..I got it. Our daughter will be born on Tuesday. I'll tell my wife it's a Birthday present for my kid ...then she'll ask what the 2nd one is for (man can she nag).
I'll get a web page up in a couple of days, then I'll post the address to it here so you guys can use it to order from. 12" Aluminum won't be a problem.
Thansk for the compliments, guys. The 24" steel Cavallino Horses weigh about 10 lbs, so no, it won't be a problem to hang it on a garage door.
Hi Guys, I have a web page set up to order the Cavallino Horses from, which takes credit cards. Please email me immediately (from the web page) if there are any problems. If you are outside the US, please contact me via eMail and I'll send you a message back with a quote on shipping and a button in it to order from. That's the simplest method I could come up with for now. mcharness, please use the 12" size button and list "Aluminum" in the notes section. http://www.myweb.cableone.net/thor276/CavallinoHorse/FerrariHorse.htm Thor
Too many choices!!!! I thought I wanted a silver one, but I think the black will show up on a white wall better. And you offer a 3' horse that will stand out better in my garage...AHHHHHHH!!!!!
Too many choices, huh! Here's the Black Cavallino Horse on a white wall, just for reference. Thor Image Unavailable, Please Login
Choice made!! THanks for that...to me, that looks the best. Now if you have a red wall, the silver would look better. Thanks.
