My wife wants to buy a Ionic Breeze thingy. Some kind of Air Purifier for a room in my house next to my garages. Anyone know if these contraptions work? Thanks
I have one, but have had it for years and this was prior to their anti-allergen unit. Works? I think so. Easy to clean. Forget about trying to replace hepa filters - I've used those too - the cost and hassle just becomes unnecessary. The units have three settings, at least mine does, which varies depending on the strength you want and the size of the room. The bathroom plugin doesn't have a setting, it just plugs in and works. I prefer breathing the air it produces and if it is a placebo for sleeping better, I'll buy that.
I recalled there being some warnings concerning this product so I checked and found the following web site which notes some real concerns with these ozone generating units: http://healthandenergy.com/ozone_damages_health.htm We have one of the Austin Healthmate filters you can read about on the following site: http://www.airfilterstore.com/ It seems to work well, but as I have not compared it to others, I would not put too much faith in my opinion. Per Randy's concern about replacing filters, the one in this unit lasts for years.
Thanks for the link Lloyd I have had an ionic breeze in my bedroom in TX for about 3 years. At times I would walk in the door and get tremendous headaches if the unit was on high. At these times the ozone smell was very strong but at the time I had no idea I was breathing in ozone. Typically I would get sick for about a week each time I came back from LA but I just assumed it was from the climate change. Needless to say I turned it off as I read the link and will see if my ailments cease. Thanks again you may have made me a healthier person....
Don't use them in small spaces - they DO produce some ozone, but they do have their uses! I have one unit in our office that I run during the night while the place is empty. Before I bought it, everyone in the office was sneezing, coughing, etc all the time. Now, there is a lot fewer sneezes to be heard. I clean mine about every other day & end up with a couple paper towels worth of dust & grime. A co-worker who smokes picked one up for his apartment - runs it during the day when he is working to remove the smoke smell from his room. I also have one at home - with 3 cats, it does a great job keeping the litter box/utility room from getting whiffy! Also - the full size quadra (not the new one with the nifty ultraviolet light) goes for right around $110 to $120 on Ebay.
Here is an interesting article on air cleaning devices. It maybe this companys propaganda, but it is informative: http://www.achooallergy.com/index.asp?pageid=1038 This same site has some other serious air cleaning devices which appear to be very advanced and priced accordingly. I dont know anything about these products but they look like the real deal as opposed to some marketing gimmick at Sharper Image. http://www.iqair.us/hppspects.cfm and http://www.iqair.us/products_healthpro_plus.cfm http://www.achooallergy.com/productdetail2.asp?supercat=Air%20Purifiers&subcat=NQ_Clarifier_Purifiers_and_Cleaners&productid=1140 http://www.achooallergy.com/productdetail2.asp?supercat=Air%20Purifiers&subcat=IQAir_Purifiers_and_Cleaners&productid=1139
