Everybody is taking it easy for now. No one really pulling out crazy laps. In the beginning some were having problems and bottoming out. But those issues have been fixed

I don't like tracks with such low lap times. F1 tracks ought to be at least 1:30 or more. Around a minute just sounds like a test track (e.g. Fiorano).

    That's because Fiorano's a short track. Indy's just fast.

So, if it we were running under the new proposed rules, he'd be done for the weekend. Correct? No spare cars?

Not if they can repair it... those F1 engineers can repair almost anything.

    True.

I still think it could be a lot better if they had followed their original plans on extending the track into the golf course. Ah well.

True, but don't forget the engine and transmission are integral load bearing structures. They take damage in a heavy impact. I'm sure they have spare wings, suspension-arms-uprights-shocks, tranny's and engines. But, under the new rules how much of that would they be allowed to bring with them to a race? If you can bring enough stuff to fully build another car... then why don't you just let the team bring another car?

    That's my question.

No spare cars, but very fuzzy on the limitation of spare parts.

Basically unless you crack the tub you can rebuild these cars.

I interpret that part of the new rules as trying to prevent teams from bringing four fully fledged cars with them. Not such a big deal in Europe with the transporters, but really cost prohibitive on the fly away races and if Bernie has his will (and he currently has) there will be more and more fly away races.
