No, it's not humane. I only watched the first 30 seconds or so. It's not humane by a long shot. Jesus Christ, just give them an overdose of sleeping pills or something. Would that be so hard?

 

Oh no, I am not saying at all that this is staged as in it is fake, but I'm saying that *maybe* PETA intentionally paid some dude a few baht or pesos to do it (perhaps not revealing who they were, or who they were filming for).

 

BTW: Remember what the US gov did to live pigs in testing of nuclear weapons? WE observed the effects by placing them in open cages at various distances from ground zero & filming, w/ sound, the skin bubbling & vaporizing off during ear-splitting, frantic squeals. Ah, in the name of physics. How sick is that?

 

I don't understand why these animals have to be alive when being skinned. Is it something in the process? I am not going to watch this video because I wouldn't be able to take it. I feel like a hypocrite having leather seats and shoes and belts but yet I personally would never be able to do it. Are cows treated humanely when they are skinned? If it is a by product for the meat they provide I can live with that...but nowadays it seems like you can make synthetics that are just as good as the real thing....I'm not a bleedy heart liberal type, but I can't understand how someone can enjoy watching or causing another pain.

 

Cows are shot in the head, when on the farm typically with a gun; many slaughterhouses use large metal bolts from a type of gun. IIRC they're like the heavy iron bolts used to connect beams.

 

They don't want to damage/soil the fur with punctures and bleeding. Hence the clubbing or live skinning.

 

If you are talking about clubbing the baby seals, it is truly one of the most disgusting things you could ever see. Last year Canada allowed 350,000 baby seals to be killed. This is not some PC crusade, it is simply senseless killing in the modern age of Goretex.

On "fur farms" the minks are electrocuted before skinning by attaching electrodes to their tails and noses, killing them instantly. When we dissected minks in anatomy class they all had burn marks on their noses still visible even after preserving with formaldehyde. Yuk.

 

Why couldnt they just use lethal injection...Would it be too expensive?

 

Yeah, that's what I always wondered. Or sleeping pills/muscle relaxant mixed in with the feed. I guess it's an avoidable expense? Real sad.

 

These films were taken in China on fur farms. These animals being skinned are called raccoon dogs and they are not rabbits.(PETA calls them rabbits to get you more fired up) China supplies more than half of the finished fur garments imported for sale in the US.

 

i watched 5 sec of the video, thats all i wanted to see. those mother f ers should be beat sensless !!!!! they should starve the animals for about 4 days then tie the bastid hunters down and derobe them, pour hunny on their balls and set the racoons loose on them !!!! then after wards take a ballpeen hammer and smack them in the head a few times. now that i would watch the full video. now im pissed off !!!!!!

 

So who is more liable then? The killer, the company who buys from him or the end consumer who provides the demand?

 

Unless we start wearing nuclear weapons out of vanity, that example is in a completely different category.

I'm all for animals being sacrified in the name of science (I'm pretty sure the U.S. didn't do the above because they just thought it would look cool) but beating an animal & skinning it alive falls within my senseless violence parameters. There's plenty of 'right' ways to kill, this isn't one of them.

OMG i turned of the video when the poor skinned animal raised it's head and blinked I admit I cryed... what an big idiot who treats animals like this.... he really should try the same thing.... I don't think I have ever been this mad before!!!

 

At least that oen guy knew how to skin them right.(cut at the tail and cut across and then pull down lke you are taking off a thsirt). I am fu cking joking. I've seen some distubing things in my 21 years but to treat an anmial like that is messed up. They are even more innocent than a child.

Not quite. The actual demand is for warm clothing, or fashionable trim. Historically, before artificial fibers were developed, this translated into animal skins--they provided the warmest clothing, and the most durable coverings. The skins were obtained by people far removed (and hidden) from the ultimate consumers. The traps and killing techniques they used were primitive and cruel. There is no need to kill these animals in such a cruel manner today. Today's abuses are a result of the "farming" being so hidden from the public eye, and, of course, greed.

It has nothing to do with supply and demand. Supply would remain the same, even if the harvesters were forced to kill the animals humanely. Demand would also not change if the price went up by a few cents per unit because the overall cost of harvesting the skin went up (if it even increases appreciably--there's a good chance it might not).

Ok, I pulled up the site at work today & the videos played. The harp seals were bad enough. I think that spike at the end of the club is supposed to pith them but it is done w/out much accuracy. That close-up of the one w/ the bloody face still calling out really touched me. The Chinese fur factory w/ live skinning & that totally de-gloved raccoon dog left to suffer horrible death was a 1st. One of the most brutal things I’ve ever seen. And I’ve watched a lot of SPCA/animal cops shows on the Animal Planet. Makes me question the state of human evolution. Seen a man in our ED almost totally de-gloved - but that was done by a freight train.

 

supply and demand...they wouldn't do it if people didn't want it. People want these things, so people will go out and get them. Big industry is making the money. These fools are the gophers.

 

My point is that the demand is for the skin, not for the cruel way in which it is harvested. In the old days, traps and techniques were primitive and there wasn't much you could do about it. Today, anyone wishing to skin an animal can do so humanely--simply feed it a concoction of pills to kill it, and then remove the skin. The demand is for the skin, not for the cruelty. It is unnecessary and can be eliminated, without affecting the supply of skin, or the demand for it.

 

You really think these people in a 3rd world country will care what we want them to do... Feed a concoction?, they would laugh. You are preaching to the choir, problem is the big companies that want it and don't care how. There is so much more happening we don't even know about...Other countries still do inhuman things to humans, you think they care about animals?
