I will concede and not argue Shuey is a jerk. I like him, but I can't argue he isn't a jerk sometimes. This incident though, you just don't understand racing if you think Michael had to legally give Rubens the corner. It would have been a "gentleman" thing to do, but this was RACING with no team orders, save the gentleman stuff for vintage racing and no fans. Michael was past the merge line and even with Rubens. It is commonly called "racing room", otherwise there would be no passing at all because you would have to be single file. Rubens knew he missed the corner and admitted it. You didn't hear him say he was pushed out or avoiding a wreck.
Michael beat him to the inside of the corner and had it. Rubens lost control because he tried to keep up and beat Michael on the outside. Anybody who has ever raced will tell you that if you are in front and can take a corner first you stay there, the guy behind has to slow down. In fact you usually dont even see what the other guy is doing, because you are focusing on what is ahead.
There is just TOO MUCH MONEY in F1 the last 10 years or so. As a result, everything is too rigid, including the rules, drivers, and owners. Except for Paul Stoddard. He's still my hero. When there is this much money at stake people get very weird. Perhaps they could simplify the whole process by not even running races. Just have the team principles show up at each track with their balnce sheets. The biggest number wins and everybody goes home. Do I have a solution? Hell no. I just wanted to complain like everyone else. But, down the road, I may have a few suggestions. I always do. Enough with this esoteric nonsense, let's discuss the race. There was a race you know, and a very entertaining one at that. Did you see that bonehead, amateurish move that Schumacher pulled coming out of the pits? Only six cars on the track and he almost caused both Ferraris to crash out. Man, that was cool. I damn near pissed myself I was laughing so hard. I certainly hope Rubens had the balls to "discuss" this with Michael behind a trailer. They make him play second fiddle to an arrogant a$$ for years and to add insult to injury......the SOB almost takes him out. Rubens deserves better. He should tell Ferrari to go to hell and drive for another team......any other team. But he won't. Why? There's too much money. See, it is the root of all evil. At least in F1. Tom
Good point, maybe the BAR thing will pan out. Even though he is making good money, he's 33, it's now or never. (probably never in his case) Back to Daly... on a bit of a tangent. I don't understand (for the life of me) why we can't get Phil Hill or Dan Gurney to do the CBS hosted races. The speed trio does a great job for SpeedTV. But, why not Hill, Gurney, and Machette when CBS hosts? Listening to Danny Sullivan makes me want to bang my head on the coffee table. I just don't understand how anyone who talks so slow, with seemingly no point, could have ever driven an Indy car. And he's the best of the CBS three.
i have a solution to the issue of too much money, lossen up the rules, for ALL FIA SERIES, including wrc, and for f1, limit aerodynamics on the cars, limit the motors to v8s and increase mechanical grip, this will get it so the teams actually race and pass each other instead of there being only a few passes each race. as for the rules, fia should loosen up how strictly they follow some of the rules, and make it a better sport for the fans. if they do all the limiting to aerodynamics and only allow v8s, then there will be less money involved, and the speeds will be a little lower, making it easier and safer to actually race each other...
Thank you. I agree. By then they could have been directed to stay 1/2 a lap separated and just lapping.
Rubens should have punted Michael off the track. He would have earned some respect for it and put the finishing touch on a miserable event.
Sorry, if you call that RACING with no team orders, just look at their times they were running way off the pace and no team orders please if RB was in the pits come on you know what would happen.
Why did Michael have a 2 second longer pit stop the first time around? They were racing and pits were doing the best they could. If not, why risk the close contact? Rubens would have backed off instead of pushing it. You could tell Michael was racing as hard as he could to catch Rubens when behind and vice versa. They were pulling some laps close to qualifying.
Did they? I don't believe they did. But they were checking it to see if they needed to. That requires them to hold off on refueling because if you change the "1" allowed defective tire in a pit stop, then you cannot refuel during that pit stop.
