if it was started by a southern fchatter it would get sticky status thats the class difference on here
http://www.hotel-honfleur.com/versionGB/GBhotel.htm I have provisionally booked the above hotel, in Honfleur, for the sunday night following next years race. Rick and I have discussed this, and the option is by no means compulsory. I am not sure of the actual cost but i have asked for "economy", twin or triple rooms, to suit twelve gents. My recent room was not so cheap as it was all they had available. Honfleur is halfway to the channel ports, from Le Mans .... has a beautiful harbour, by which, i enjoyed a first class meal last sunday. I know stevef wishes to be included within next years arrangements, following his admirable option to stay home with his "poorly" missus this year .... credit due, steve. cheers, d
Dave, I am planning to go next year with a mate of mine (non F-car owner). Can we tag along? Cheers....
Dave, I would say Honfleur is a good 3 hours drive from LeMans on the Sunday evening. If you set off after the race say 5.00pm that may be a bit late at the hotel. We tend to try and get somwhere only an hour from the Circuit, leaving time for a shower and a decent meal before setting off for a ferry late Monday afternoon.
Also spoke to Airtrack today, re the campsite reservations ... the chap says they start to take bookings for next year, around september time .... i asked if we could secure the same spot, but to include the one pitch next to us (between us and the shower block) with the two miserable gits on it..... He agreed we could, and suggested we wrote in with our request (the shade from the trees was v useful) I have offered my VW Transporter van, as a support vehicle .... have booked a gas barbie (are gas bottles allowed on the ferry ?) .... have booked a round banquet table to sit twelve, and the associated chairs, crockery, cutlery, linen and silver candleabra..... My mate does catering hire, and another mate runs a hotel school here for overseas students - i shall be writing to him re the two phillipino maids i mentioned previous. Perhaps the ferry and dover hotel could be booked once we have numbers ? cheers for now, d
I'll get on the case for free champers and a free champers swimming pool )and anything else i canb get for nowt) I'm deff in for next year boys
hi mal we set off an hour before the end of the race ... the traffic was almost non-existent. Made it to Honfleur for soon after five. I would be happy to do the same again...... Next time, may travel via Lisieux. The welcome, hot shower was absolutely fantastic ! cheers, d
Manx Dave. Count me in for next year, although I will now have to plan my *cough* wedding around Le Mans!!
You ate too much, slept with TWO blokes, smoked far too many ceeegars and drank gallons of sh1te red wine (2004 vintage - 1 euro/bottle) .... you deserve to be gettin' wed. Where's the stag do ? cheers, d
For me the atmosphere at the end of the race is one of the best bits, I personally wouldnt miss it. But I agree the hot shower in the hotel is always a highlight. The traffic out of LeMans after the race takes about half an hour to clear the circuit, once clear there is not problem providing you avoid the main route north and the southern ring road towards Paris.
thanks for that mal ... these are all very useful snippets of information, which i am sure will prove most useful, when fine tuning next years trip. almost a week has past since returning ... anyone else struggling to clear the silly grin from their mug ?
