PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG

    If I recall correctly...

If you have an Interstate battery in there now, it's because it also uses reverse poles - however - similarly equipped Optimas are rumored to chase gremlins away.

It is considered extremely wise to have an Optima "orange top" Battery in a 348. Some would say to go ahead and replace your non-Optima battery even if the current (pun not intended) battery is not the culprit.

For example, parkerfe has stated he used the 348 orange-top on several threads like this.

I also recall 308 users prefer Optima "red-top" batteries.

    Starts looking things up...

Here's a mix of alternator and battery threads

    From the old site:
One of parkerfe's many such helpful recommendations

When frank actually replaced his - note tifosi states "Orange is the same as red except with reverse polarity" plus - confrmation that Orange top = Optima 34R

That oughta do it. I'm +/- bushed.

I totally agree with you. I have the yellow top in mine and it has performed wonderfully.

Before you take the alternator out....Take the car up to autozone or some place like that and let them perform a load test on your alternator to confirm if thats the problem...If it is, I would take the car to a repair place and let them remove the alternator, check the cam seals at that time too...send the alternator out to be rebuilt and have the repair shop put it back in or GET UNDER THAT CAR AND PULL IT OUT YOURSELF! :) There are many threads on how to do this. I am not a mechanic myself but I replaced the clutch on mine. These cars are not hard to work on...

Pepboys has three different types of Alternators 105amp, 120amp, and 124amp. Does it really matter which one I get?

Have you had the alternator checked out to determine if that is the problem? If so, how much do they want for the new alternator? Do they confirm fittment? If you are going to get a new one, I would bring your old one in at the same time to confirm that it is the correct one.

As for the voltage...I would think the 124amp would be the best bet but I am going to leave this one for someone more qualified then myself.

Don't let this discourage you either. We all have had a problem or two that we need to get worked out...
