Dave, is right. I bought & still own the 348TB for my 30th then spent thousands on maintaining it. Once you own one & drive it, never look back....no other marques has given me so much joy. I almost swapped my 348 for a TR earlier but that TR was sold before I could get it. It depends on your needs, I'm not too sure about TR moving/parking about in London due to it's size but 348 is definitely much easier & I can still do parallel parking with it. Not a TR(maybe if you struggle). Maintenance is expensive on Ferraris & if you have to struggle to own one, it's not the time yet & do prepare some good spares or it's going to sit for a while. Of course try both & find the best example you can & don't look for bargains or you'll regret it. Upgrades for both are plenty out there. Yes, TR is still a respected model even among 360 owners but the 348 has always look like it's son :)

    First Ferrari?
Get the baby Testa... the 348.

If you are considering a Testarossa then you will be able to afford a later 348 GTB or GTS with 320bhp. These cars are very well tried and tested and, looked after, are very robust.

I have had my 348 Spider fir nearly a year now. I have had 10k fantastic miles and now feel ready to move up to a Testarossa 512TR. I will be selling the Spider after the trip to Spain in August, then all I need to do is find another £10k!

As for looks, yes, The Testarossas have the ability to stop traffic... but the 348 makes people stop and stare nearly as much.

For your first Ferrari a big flat 12 would be a bold move. Also the series 2, the 512TR is widely regarded as a big improvment on the original... although it did lose those great hi-level side mirrors!

For you, get the TR. Unless you need the removable top as in the 348TS or convertible, the TR is more exotic. But for me, I must drive the 348. Great car. I was on the same fence for the last year. I decided to get whatever car came up that was a good deal in either model. It just happened that a nice 348 came available before I found a good TR for sale in my price range. But the TR is what I always wanted (since I was 16).

I just asked someone ( I work in retail location and showed him the pic)... he said it was the car in "Miami Vice"...but he didn't know what it was called, but he knew it was a Ferrari.

He wasn't a regular viewer then! ... unlike me who has just bought the series 1 boxed set of DVDs :D

In series 1 he is driving the black Daytona (by the way, one of which I follwed along the motorway last Friday!)... did he actually ever drive a white Testarossa or is it just myth?

The 348 does however appear in Sin City, which was what I was going to see when I saw the Daytona. :)

If you had to dig into the engine, the TR would be a bit more costly.

We may have lost our initial poster, but I'll jump in anyways.

Do you want to cruise out on the highway at 120mph all day? stomping little Viper's and corvette's? Or hang out on the twisties and take it into the city every now and then. Two very different cars.

I was torn between the 512BBi and 348spider, and ended up with the spider. Once you can answer how you want to use the car, the rest'll fall into place.

I found the TR too wide to comfortably take into the city, case closed. There's also a huge # of TR's made, so not sure the early ones will ever appreciate.

Neither car is going to be stomping Vipers or Corvettes in a straight line.....

Both cars are very capable of twisties and city driving.

I owned a 308 GTB QV which was a amazing drive, I also drove a 348 which was the same, however when I got my Testarossa the power, feel and pull of the V12 is unbelievable. However the running costs are high.

Kam, have you fitted that Capristo yet? I'm waiting :)

Back to the original question... definitely a TR for me! I tried both, bought the TR and never looked back.

    No one has lost me!

    Thanks for the feedback.....

Today i viewed both....the garage had the Testerossa,348,355,360,328,308.....and i can say the Testerossa made everything else look plain!!!!..No offence to any other Ferrari model. But i am now deffo goin Testerossa as although the interior was dreadful and dated and smelt of mould..LOL the exterior was to die for!

Testerossa...may i be bold enuff to say...the best looking Ferrari since sliced bread..LOL

Cheers Guys...expect many posts asking why the thing has broke down in the future!!!

Congrats on making the decision! The exterior definitely makes a bold statement & still is one of the best (& bold) looking cars on the road.

The interior is a bit dated. You can always get a 512TR if you desire a more updated interior.

Congrats, look forward to seeing some pics when you pull the trigger. :)

Is there space for taller drivers in a TR? I find 308s/328s too small for my 6'1 inch frame. I am also gravity challenged or fat as some would say. I found 355s to be much more comfortable. Its important that I am reasonably comfortable in a sports car. Some of you claim to 6'8 and F-car drivers....I think we might have a different definition of the word comfortable.

I went though the same decision - bought the testarossa. I didn't want to have that nagging thought in the back of my head ..."You could have had a 12 cylinder..."

    No regrets...

I also think that, the testarossa's have a higher chance of appreciation, as they were the flagship model. Also the more famous of the two!

    Go for the outrageous TR.

But try to get an understated color like white, black, or silver.

I think black is beautiful on the Testarossa.

Why go outrageous, in a subtle colour. Mine will have to be red, but only because I already have a yellow Spider.

But I like your thinking, a white TR, subtle :D
