OK, tried a search on this and came up with very little. On another thread I pulled a near-hijack and asked whether there was a significant difference in build quality between the later 308 QV's and the 328's. Got 1 good comment that 328's are better built, and an email from an F-chat'er saying the opposite ("junky Fiat controls", etc.)

I'm slightly biased toward the 308 just because it looks more rakish and has the more classic interior, but the extra power in the 328 is tempting.

Thoughts? I'm not looking for a "328's are like a Lexus while 308's are like Yugo's" sort of conclusion. Just your two lira.

(And yes, this is relevant - just found a buyer for my 993 and will have some prime garage space opening up in July, if all goes well.)

308QV does indeed have less 'Fiat junk electricals' as found in the 328 for controlling devices. The 308 is more 'raw' and, probably, easier to maintain and fix things.

328 is nicer looking, easier to drive, better performance.

I agree with Steven in regards to the 308QV being more "raw" than the 328, but that is a very subjective issue - as all cosmetic issues are. The 328 is indeed a better car overall when it comes to performance.

I am no expert on the subject, but the later the model of 328 you get the better it is from the standpoint of having worked out all the inherent bugs that exist with each and every model. The 84-85 308-QV's are great as they are the last years of the 308 series. The 328 made changes of course, but they were not very radical and therefore the 328 had piggy-backed onto the final version of the 308QV.

Either car is great and as similar as they are very different. The major service and other repairs are almost identical and therefore the costs associated are similar. I have heard from several Ferrari mechanics that they feel the 328 is indeed the most reliable Ferrari ever made. Personally, I have to think that the 308QV is almost identical in regards to reliability.

Any other 308 QV or 328 owners wish to add any of their know-how to this thread... I'm interested in hearing other viewpoints.

Yes, I didn't mean to start a debate on aesthetics. I've also accepted that whichever one I end up with isn't going to be fast by modern standards.

I just don't see a huge number of differences in the mechanicals or electronics, and I don't buy the "308 is an old car, so it will have more problems than the 328" argument - especially since I'm considering an '86 328 or an '85 308.

Just want some impressions from this group, especially from those of you who owned both.
