I was about to be state spelling bee champ, but I boned it. Having moved here from Europe the year prior, my knowledge of words was "off". The word to spell was "tortoise". Where I lived, it was pronounced tor-toys. In the USA, it's pronounced tor-tuss. I didn't know what the heck a tortuss was, so before the whole group of schools gathered, I stammered out "t-o-r-t-u-s" and they felt so bad they gave me a 2nd chance, and I blurted out "t-o-r-t-u-s-s", then exited stage left.

I shoot IPSC. Former German junior national champ back around 1989-1991. Might've also been top junior shooter in Austria and France back then, but I can't remember.

 

I have had parts in three movies, including Midnight Cowboy, Waltz Across Texas and Hangar 18 plus raced professional motocross for the Kawasaki factory in the early 70's.

My daily driver is that same car I got the summer before my senior year in high school. I still love it as much as I did the day I brought it home almost 20 years ago. It has gotten to the point that when I run across old friends I have not seen in a while they all ask if I still have it (1980 VW Scirocco)

I bet there are only about 15 people here who have even heard of a Scirocco

 

I have. My 85 Cavalier station wagon I had in college would've smoked your 'Dub. ....or at least carried a heck of alot more mac 'n cheese and Schlitz.

 

my buddy still has his. they are pretty fast cars.

 

I'm 27 and fully aware of what a Scirocco is. That's an Isuzu, right?
