I just purchased a 308 and the water pump is frozen. I just got the new pump in yesterday and am going to change it but was hoping anyone might have done this already as I have no manual and want to make sure I do it right the first time.

Sorry I can’t help but I would be curious to know how you realized that the water pump was dead ?
So let me present me for this first message… I am a new owner of a Mondial 8 QV Cabriolet from 1985 and I live in Le Mans France. I am searching for contacts with owners of the same car and would be very interested in technical advices since I am a new comer in the Ferrari world. My first day was already full of surprises, for instance I certainly filled up with too much cooling water and the car after my first stop throw away a litter or two of cooling water by the hose that goes from the top tap of the water vessel down to the ground close to the left rear wheel. I wonder if this is just because of extra coolant or if it could be due to over heating of the water and engine. Then how to be sure that I have no bubbles in this circuit now… Anyway I also had few lightening of the Engine coolant alarm that last for few seconds and stopped … then no problem during an hour on country side roads at reasonable speed… The cars also have an alarm on the air/conditioning panel when I start it but the former owner told me that the Freon gaz should be changes. I guess there is no ling between those two alarms. You see I certainly have a lot to learn…

    Ciao ! heuuu…. Au revoir.

Your car probably needs the coolant system purged of air. Try letting the air out the radiator vent located to the passenger side of the radiator. Also remove the coolant tank cap and let the car idle for a while, that will get a lot of air out fast, especially after the thermostat opens and the water is moving through the whole system. Also put the levers to heat in the cabin and get the air out of the heater core too.
You may have to do this several times to get the coolant to stop leaking out the overflow.

    Don,

I just finished mine yesterday. It really isn't that tough a job IF everything goes as planned. I had quite a few problems with the manifold/impeller housing that slowed mine.

There are a ton of posts on working on these pumps, here are a few...

The best ones I found were from the old site (the threads there start at the bottom and go up!)

    http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/112/337377.html

    and

    http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/256120/282100.html

These were two of the best I found. (Pay close attention to Verrel's posts, he is very helpful and knowledgeable!!)

The short version is jack the car up, remove the passenger side tire and inner fender liner. The pump is now right in front of you.

Check out some of the links in those two threads and if you get stuck or come up with a question don't be afraid to come back to this thread and ask!
