360 Accident in NH, anyone know further details?

This is from a posting on another forum that I frequent. The individual goes to the Uni of NH. I'm hoping someone up in the EC might know a few more details regarding this one and if the driver is stable and doing ok. The 360 did have Vermont plates.

Today on the way to campus, traffic was heavy due to the holiday weekend. There were also scattered pockets of construction along the highway. A silver Ferrari 360 with Vermont plates passed me around the Manchester Airport exit on Rt 101 in NH. When I encounter a car of that caliber, I tend to remember it.

About ten minutes later, I found myself three cars behind the Ferrari, coming up on a major traffic jam just outside a construction area.

As you approach the construction, the highway merges from 3 lanes, to two, to one. Numerous flashing signs warn of this, and half the state police are out there to remind you to SLOW DOWN. As I was slowly making my way from three lanes to two, a man in a black Nissan Titan had decided his cellphone conversation was more important than paying attention. He was oblivious to the fact that he was still going about 80mph and the traffic ahead of him was near stand-still. I saw him come flying at the back of my F150, and immediately tensed and got that rush of adrenaline and panic, because I knew he was going to slam into me. At the last possible second he layed on his horn and swerved around me, into the second lane, still without breaking as far as I could tell.

His Titan struck the rear drivers-side of the Ferrari with the most amazing sound and with so much force, it threw the Ferrari into a Chevy Tahoe in front of it and spun it sideways across a closed lane and into a parked police cruiser about twenty yards further down. The Titan's rear tires actually left the ground when it hit, and the hard-cover on the bed came loose and hit the rear window.

I pulled off into the closed lane and got out. A few other people had put on their hazards and done the same. Police and construction workers were already descending on everyone and everything. It was pretty hectic for awhile. They couldn't get the driver of the Ferrari out of his vehicle due to the damage. The man in the Titan was able to kick open his drivers-side door with some help from two officers, and got out with his cellphone in hand. The Titan was most decidedly totalled. The entire front had been crushed down to about half its normal length. The entire highway was covered in fluids from the Titan and the Ferrari.

I was told to stay near my vehicle. So I did. Paramedics used the median to reach the scene from the Southbound side of the highway, as did the Manchester Fire Dept. They cut the driver out of the Ferrari, and carted him off to the hospital via Life-Flight helicopter. I hope he survived; he was talking to paramedics and moving around while he was still in the Ferrari. It would seriously be a miracle considering I could not even recognize what was left of the car. The rear was barely still attached to the rest of the frame with pieces of the engine all over the place. I don't know where the engine block went. The passenger seat was actually crushed up above the dash and into the windshield.

The driver of the Tahoe was ok, but the rear drivers-side of his truck was too badly damaged to drive it. The driver of the Titan was in police custody in a cruiser by the time I was able to leave after giving the police my statement and contact information.

I hope he survives . as for the Titan ***** , i hope he goes to jail and gets rear ended as well.

Also, has this been posted in the New England Section? They would be more likely to be in the know about this.

I hope everone is okay. This kind of thing scares me to death. That's why when I ride the Road King, I have one eye in the rear view and the other on the drivers around me. I let HD make sure I'm going forward straight as an arrow.

Maybe some good could come out of this by using the Ferrari for impact analysis. In turn, that could be used by the factory to build in greater safety features. It seems there has been a rash of Ferrari accidents lately and the only control we have is to look for a positive to come out of a horrible negative. It is a blessing no one was in the passenger seat.

Sorry to hear about this accident.
No one in the local club has a 360..
I spoke to Todd and he doesnt know if the car either.

I hope the driver makes it ok, too. I am always outraged at cellphone talking drivers, and am even more pissed that, even though it's against the law in NY State, it rarely seems to be enforced- I guess it's assumed that if a distracted driver causes an accident as a result of phone use, it will be a factor in the criminal charges and eventual civil case, but then it's obviously too late for anyone unfortunate enough to be in the way. Sorry for the rant, here, but this just reinforces my already strong feelings that people's driving habits reveal them to be selfish, preoccupied, and uncaring about what their limited view of the world can do to others. My prayers to the driver and family. And yes, i hope the driver who caused the accident gets some real time in a prison (where, i assume, they don't allow cell phone use).

I use my cellphone in the car chronicly but instead of being a stupid BrowN i use handsfree or Speakerphone now i can't live without those to things. I hate when i see the cops rollin round their phones stuck to the sides of their heads damn 'Ginas. Brown please!

Anyone see in the new car and driver where the F430 they were supposed to test got T-boned in Jersey by a cell-talking, redlight-running idiot. Fortunately, someone stepped up an lent their car to test, but it's a shame some guy just shelled out $200k for a brand new car and have it get destroyed so soon. Hope he had insurance.

(Same with that guy who's 308GTS burst into flames at the gas pump yesterday- anyone see that on the news?)

i would imagine the f430 they were referring to that got t-boned in the article would have been FNA's press car (FNA is in englewood cliffs, nj), and not a private party car. but yeah, it was really generous of the knappenberg (sp?) guy to lend his f430 and the turbo S cab to them.
