What is the size of that short/wide hose at the filler neck of the fuel tank on an '85 308? Is it obtainable at auto supply stores or is this a special fit part?

    Thanks in advance.

    Doc,

The sizes of the hose are :-
    Length 95mm
    Outside diameter 65mm
    Inside diameter 55mm

Any good quality petrol resistant hose that matches the dimentions will do, however we do stock the original part which costs $67 plus tax and freight costs.

beware--changing that little hose is the most painful and frustrating job you will find on your car. It is danm near impossible to do. you will have to remove the straps on the tank so you can wiggle the tank around. a cutting torch and a REALLY BIG HAMMER would help.

    Hi Doc,

Have an illustrated article written up on how to change out this hose. Requires some patience - there is an easier (not very obvious at first) method.

Fuel hose is standard Gates (size in article).
Drop me an email at [email protected] & I'll mail to you.
    :) Carl

Actually, I figured out an easy way to remove the 308 fuel filler hose, did it today:

Remove the gas cap, remove the connecting breather hose going over to the other side. Then, remove the lower side of the filler hose off the tank. Push up, forcing the metal fuel filler nozzle up. You have to work it back and forth.
Finally, after the bottom half of the hose is off, you can work the nozzle down through the body work, and pull it off. No need to loosen tank...

Now if I can only find a matching hose. 2 1/4 " ID is too big. Looking for 2 1/8".

Anybody have any local Houston suggestions?

I got this hose at NAPA and here is the numbers on the hose. I believe it was Gates .
    GAS EBP 78CN25 112399
I had to buy 6" that was the min. length and it cost me $6 . It was a metric hose and has the same ID/OD as the above UK hose.

Be careful getting the rubber gasket at the filler to the body back in the old position. Some wd40 hepls. You can rip it up very easily.

    Thanks, Mike...

    But,

I CAN"T FIND THIS DARN METRIC HOSE ANYWHERE IN HOUSTON!!!

It's 65mm OD, 55MM ID. Roughly 2.5 " OD, 2 1/8" ID. Every auto parts store I've called, and I've called them all, has either 2.5" ID, or 2" ID.

I tried Steve King's NAPA part #, they couldn't find it....

    Anybody have any ideas..?

    Greg

Don't forget all of those evaporative hoses. Shortly after i picked up the 308, i filled it up and took it home. The driveway was full, so i parked it just off the street where the lawn dips down to the right. As I got out of the car, i could smell lots of gas. With the left side tank a bit higher than the right, some fuel was transfering through the bottom cross over and pouring out of a cracked evaporative hose at the top of the right tank
    Replace them all.

    chris

I have been told by a reliable source that heavy truck and tractor parts and repair places may have this size. But I was unable to find them in Montana. maybe a large city would have a place that stocks it.

I live in the 4th largest city in the nation. Nobody here has it!! I checked Steve's NAPA #, they didn't have it....never heard of it...!

Anybody willing to send me their "extra" fuel filler hose, 55mm ID, 65mmOD,
95mm long (about 4"). I'll gladly cover costs......!

This is perfect, I haven't posted yet, but I have a length of the hose in question to sell! It's the NAPA stuff.

308 GTB/S, cut to length, $10 shipped within the U.S.
I think this is the same size hose for the 308GT4, they just use more of it; contact me with how much it is and we can work that out.

You don't want THIS in your car, do you?

    It's only a flesh wound!

Mine looked much worse than that.

And the truth of the matter is, with the newest 308 being 20 years old,
Every 308 should have it's fuel filler changed!
