It is difficult to speak for the others, Al, but I think this is the only element of the 2006 booking that MAY be in jeopardy.
I was happy with the facilities, but if we could save a few quid elsewhere, there would be copious amounts of extra beer tokens available.
    cheers, d

The reason I ask is that, although Rviant and the guys I was supposed to go with this year have very kindly said that I am welcome to join them next year, it would be nice to go with the usual gang... and also, joking aside, I think the London guys' drinking penalties would kill me!!!

The thing is, I couldn't justify paying Airtrack prices when most other people spend £80 on camping in Houx (which is meant to be one of the best sites to be in) + £35 for general admission.

So, if you go for a cheaper option than Airtrack, would you please keep me in the loop as I have banned anyone else in the department booking holiday in June next year! :D

Did I see next year's dates somewhere?

Anybody else got any experience of the camping in Houx ?

(I agree Al & Dave - it is quite expensive and finding somewhere cheaper with similar facilities)

A lot of P.Heads Le Mans regulars use it.

It won't be as posh as Airtrack sounds, but for a £400 odd saving....

Rick .... the campsite on the opposite side to the track from the kart track looked OK ... we watched quite a bit of the race from up on that balcony, opposite.
    Anyone been there ?

Guys if you are thinking of a chateux this one is great I have stayed in it for the previous 2 Le Mans.

    http://www.french-country-cottages.co.uk/uce/ccf?lang=en&action=qsearch&fromPage=home&currency=26&region=Loire&countryId=23&regionId=211&sleeps=14&go.x=10&go.y=12

Sleeps 12 easily and even more at a push !

Think we paid about £2k for 7 nights - got the girls to join us after the weekend when some of the guys went home.

Swimming Pool, clay tennis court etc etc even has about a 4 acre front garden to use as a camp site - major drawback 23km from the track.

    Dave,

That is Maison Blanche where we stay - see my posts above for details - you may struggle to get tickets now though I suspect it is already booked up as it is very popular!

That looks fantastic - are you not using it again this year ? How far from the track is it ?

    Cheers

Ric missed Le Mans totally this year due to work commitments and the usual group of guys didn't go and use it either - so there may be some strong competition for next year from the 2005 party.

However I do have the owners name and number somewhere so if and when I find it I can talk to him direct about 2006 if there is enough interest.

As stated the drawback is 23 km from track - but once you are there you don't necessarily have to leave. From memory it was only about 20 minutes drive - 2.2D Toyota Previa 12 up !!!!!

found tickets for maison blanche (or tetra rouge) today, but at a premium....
£219 per person but according to very honest "Helen", the showers/toilets aint nowt to write home about ... there are no pre-determined pitches (ie free for all) therefore we would need an advance party arriving on the wednesday ... no electric available.
Travel had to be via Eurotunnel .... were other options (portsmouth/caen) which would offer less french driving but costs seem to be rapidly escalating and did not appear cost effective (time on ferry/saved mpg) ... sailing times were not as good as speedferries.
Lots of ferrari at tetra rouge under the ratpack.com banner.
The impression i had, was that at this cost, we would be better off at airtrack .... especially if we could take on the same pre-determined spots, incorporate stevef (need XXXXL pitch !), have 220/240v, reasonable showers etc etc.
But despite the above, "helen" has given us a booking ref (with no financial implication or obligation) for maison blanche - just in case.... and more importantly the search goes on.
I am also trying to book a rather large table at one of the three restaurants on the mulsanne straight, for the early hours of sunday morning.

So, at this moment in time, i think we are doing:
    i) dover ramada jarvis, wed.
    ii) speedferries thurs am
iii) airtrack thurs fri and sat night
iv) cheval blanc, Honfleur, sun night
    v) speedferries bolougne, monday, early afternoon.

chaps, please let me know if i am straying of the desired route.
    cheers, d

Can you not find any availability for Houx, like I said, that seems to be the choice of a lot of PHers.

    hi mal ... fifteen !
However, if we do maison b, we would prefer to send an advance party of say two, (to arrive wednesday) with the van, in order to allocate an area.
    cheers, d
