Look at a BBR F430, then a Red Line and Looksmart F430. Also remember the BBR is twice the price. The BBR wheels and tires alone make it look toy-like to me. It's ashame, usually BBR is very nice. But then agian there 575M Maranello isn't all the accurate as far as body lines go either. My money lately has been gong to Red Line and Looksmart.

cool, thanks. Iam really more F1 than road cars anyway, problem is if you wanted to collect Ferrari F1's from 99-2000 onwards you had to go the BBR/QR Gasoline route, the hotwheels stuff is way to toy-ish and the early hotwheels F1 were terrible.

I originally became a dealer back in 1993-4?. I had no problem then calling them up...but I also visited them at the Nurnburg Toy Fair (Speilwarenmesse).

My big deal with them was getting them to do a model of my 360 Challenge as a full retail release.

As for horrible BBRs...yes, that does happen. Sadly Ive had over the years at least a dozen models arrive that couldnt be sold...and a few of those just get scraped for parts

Hey f355b, I was just wondering if you could post some more pics of the yellow enzo in the big acrylic display case on the red leather base.

    Hello F355b,
Nice to see your collections here. I have the BBR F430, I think the quality is up to BBR's standard.

Maybe it's just the picture and hope it looks better in real, but I think they did a bad job on the rear. Look at those exhausts pipes for example, they look like the ones you would normally find on those Japanese tuners. How could they ask so much $$ for this? I think it looks cheap.

To begin with, you have to be a real model car dealer, not just some collector trying to get cheap prices. I sent them my tax ID, Corporation paperwork showing that I sell miniatures, my link to my webpage, my ads in magazines, etc. They knew I was legitimate. They have been cracking down on the "delaers" that aren't really dealers.

Perhaps these days, with modern manufacturing techniques, the hand builders are losing ground to the mass producers. If we take a look at the F430´s of RedLine, MR, BBR and IXO, it is no longer a certainty that the IXO, pure in terms of shape, should come in last. The IXO loses on detailing, but shouldn´t the IXO win overall on price/quality relation? If seen the IXO and the RedLine next to eachother, and other than the label on the box, there was no easy telling which one was the RedLine and vice versa. Not without some closer examination. The MR is the big winner, but if I am correct, this model goes for about 400 dollars. Should we even compare?

    Other example:
I own a Herpa 348 (TS and TB) and a Heco 348 GTS, both 1:43. The Herpa being at a fraction of the Heco asking price (which I just happen to be able to pick up at a ridiculously low price). Which is the better representation of the 348-shape? No doubt the Herpa. Sure, the model is plastic, but it is this material that gives the model it´s sharp, detailed look. Too bad Herpa gave 1:43 up.

The Starter 308 GTB looks horrible and it costs about 4 times more than the Vitesse one, which looks perfectly

I´ll always be in the market for handbuilds, but I think they really prove their superiority in the vintage models. Cars which have more detailling to begin with. Same goes for lesser known Ferrari-models. They don´t appeal to a greater audience, therefor aren´t as interesting for a mass producer.

Being slightly obsessive compulsive (comes from all of the schooling), I actually have tried to give up on models of Ferraris, because it seems that when you really are going for accuracy, you might as well buy the 1:1 scale version which is about the same price as what my model collection would have gotten to if I didn't stop...

very true, but for me i really only collect F1 and i stick with Minichamps, problem is for the Ferrari's you have to go BBR/QR Gasoline as Minichamps do not produce F1 Ferrari's. saying that i REALLY love the hand built BBR's.
Not from an investment point of view but you really are not going to lose to much collecting these, if anything. I will continue to collect as long as i can and the way Ferrari are racing this season not sure if we are going to see too many new F1's this year :(

You are lucky. Back when the shop I ran, Mini Garage, was the importer of BBR (circa 1984-1986) half the models arrived with packaging stuck to the paint, ruining the paint jobs to the point they could not be saved. Parts were missing or broken, and at least 10% of the bodies had cracks in them from improper packaging. It took forever to get replacement parts, and at least 20% of what you paid for had to be scrapped. Doing business with them became impossible.

Yep, have heard these stories from different shops too.
That's why they go to Italy every 2 months and only buy what they see.
The models which are not sold at the factory are send to the shops further in the world!! So maybe we pay a little more here but we get the best quality!! :)

You got it, the BBR one sucks....the Red Line and Looksmart models are half the price and twice as nice. Look at the BBR's wheels and tires, they're horrible, and those exhaust tips are about five times to big.

There are four road cars that I really want that I don't yet have, so I'm looking at calling it a day at seven.

I just hope I don't get into the race cars...
