What are peoples thoughts on extending this through till Friday night? No one got a chance to practice during the long weekend which left only last night and tonight. On the other hand, its not exactly fair to Chocaine who's currently in the lead. What say thee?

I put full mods on there minus forced induction. The tires are expensive, but they sure help. Im making less trips to the sand and such, and I finally got the ford GT I was hoping for.

Given the relatively small participation so far in this contest, and given that not many people were able to participate because of the extended weekend, I will be moving the checkered flag for this race to Friday night at Midnight, EST.

On that note, the prize for this contest is a 1:18 size Porsche Carrera GT (Black). The car features working doors, hood, trunk and steering system. Full die-cast metal with rubber tires. It measures about 10" long and ..... it is made in Italy!!! (Ferrari content there ... sorta)

I tried to get a Ferrari, but couldn't find one from this manufacturer right now. Tried getting a Miata, but couldn't get that either, so I just went with the best looking car they had to offer. CGT took it =).

Looking forward to declaring a winner on Friday night. Good Luck all.

    edit - here's the pic

My setup has changed in that I used the #12 transmission setup, 24F and 30R downforce. Suspension is spring rate 5F and 3.4R, shocks at 7.
There is a bit of body roll, and it gets tricky in some places, but I can jump sidewalks with that setup! :)
Oh yeah, removed the TCS too.
I did read what Bill said ... but I prefer taking baby steps from a setup that is otherwise pretty much ok ...

After working on two of the chicanes that can be taken differently given the power levels of this car:

    http://www.pbase.com/bill_in_brooklyn/image/45921018/large

Come on, a little under 3 and a half hours left till the checkered flag. Remember, prize is a 1:18th scale Porsche Carrera GT in black. Current title holder is Zorro with a 6'59.870.

There's at least 20 more seconds to be had here folks .. who's gonna take a few of 'em =)

Shall I post my next challenge here and see how everybody likes it?

Right now, I'm thinking the old RUF along with some interesting track, such as Laguna Seca, or perhaps La Sarthe without the chicanes ...

I'll start up GT4 as soon as I get home and see the options. :)

Oh, and suggestions welcome, BTW ... :)

    One suggestion: Shorter Course!!!!!

I couldnt tell you how many time i would run a perfect 5 mintues, then go into a sandpit testing my luck.

I guess the longer the course would determine who could be a good driver through almost everything at once.

Maybe Fuji 80's, your choice of car? A short, not so technical course, but it will show who has the best control through high speed turns and things such as that.....

I agree, a shorter course is much easier to learn inside-out. And small mistakes that can cost you several seconds don't frustrate as much as on courses like Sarthe and Nurburgring.

I request that whatever combo of car/track is chosen, then the laptimes be sub-2:30.

How many people have the F1 car? It's a blast to drive on the shorter road courses.

I just won it... Call it cheating or whatever but I used the chapparral 2D, entered the 24 Nurburgring race, and just put it on B-spec and came back the next day.

It's a great car, but it chews tires like a MFer! <Insert Michelin Joke Here.> And it's not possible to change the tires to a super hard racing slick, I think you're stuck with a medium duty.

How about one of the city courses, they're much shorter and a few of them are a blast.

Oh, and I put a vote in for the Yellow Bird 930 Ruf ... fantastic car, even in stock form.

Formula Car in New York would be fun... Also, it removes the element of cheating because you CANNOT buy new equipment for it, even if you wanted to.

Id love to have a formula car as the challenge, I dont have it yet but im going to B-spec the 24hr enduro anyways so i might have it by Monday. I remember the Formulas from GT3, I used to be able to tear it up on courses like Tokyo R246 and Midfield.

I recommend everybody B-spec the 'Ring 24H and get a Formula car. This game has been out long enough that IMO, you should have the 25% completion rate needed to enter endurance races, and enough money to build/buy a car that will be able to beat the cars in that race by itself. I used B-Spec almost entirely beyond the 10% complete mark, with the exception of our Fchat Challenges. If not for battling against "real" competitors, my PS2 would be collecting dust on the corner.

I just ran the New York street course in the formula car, and it is AWESOME. after 3 laps I was running around 1'20.XXX" Some gearing changes are in order, though.

There are only 12 corners to master, so it is possible for mere mortals like myself to put in a nearly perfect lap.

Shall we make this our next challenge?

And the word should come from me, I guess. :)

Well, I don't have the F1 ... so you guys are going to force me to B-Spec the 24h, eh? Ok, I can handle that. :)

I'm just scared that the New York course (and other city courses) allows too much "railing", ie just surfing the rails instead of taking a clean line through the curves ...

So then the new challenge will be F1 at New York? After 5 laps I’ve gotten my times down to 1.18.3xx with a lot of room for improvement.

Got it down to a 1.15.113 with two trips into the wall. The more I play this with the F1 car the more fun it becomes. I'll have to try some other city courses.
