Ken, OK, that's an option. I figured these were the current standard, but I guess not! Anybody have a recommendation for 308 replacement fans? oh yeah, w/ a minimum of install headache? Greg....
A couple of options come to mind (this is a topic to search on!): 1. 308QV Fans--apparently upgraded design, bolt-in replacement. 2. "Hayden" fans--which were at one point available at Pep Boys--will work but require some fabrication of a mounting bracket (To do it right). The OLD FerrariChat archives have most of the discussion on this. Search! I searched on "308" and "fan", "all words", on SUBJECT LINES, partial word matches. QV Cooling Fan Upgrade on a 308 http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/256120/233360.html It's a shame, but the pictures from a previous Hayden install were lost. 308QV Hayden Fan Installation http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/256120/11481.html This should get ya started... I agree, it's time to dump those fans--just too much current draw.
Does anybody know anything about SPAL fans? Apparently they're the OEM for many Italian cars. These fans are in a square box. Will they fit okay in a 308? What CFM rating do I want---650 or 1070? The 650s are thinner, and draw less amps... I found some Haydens at a local auto parts store, but I want to wait and get more opinions before I buy anything... Ideas? Greg
Greg, Don't mess around, go with the Haydens, I've been on this forum a long time, and the Haydens have a great following here.
From the first post in the thread that I posted (308QV Hayden Fan Installation), http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/256120/11481.html: I got the fans (Hayden 3680 from Pep Boys last week). They each flow 675cfm across a radiator. This is just one data point, but I believe these are the Haydens that work. This guy got them to work quite well. --Mike
Thanks, Mike. I saw that too, I guess I just wanted a second confirmation.... I'm going to replace the old fans this weekend. Should bring down my amp draw quite a bit...... Greg
Let us know how you make out. For what it's worth, I think your altenator is not putting out the amps that you were told. Have someone with a volt-amp-load tester check it out to make sure, this will also check your battery to see if it can handle the loads.
