PMDDMD, you sit there and pretty much say that going to some university is the only way to get an education... half the stuff taught in universities doesnt even apply in the real world. take accounting, for example; when the have accounting courses at universities, almost all of the things they teach dont apply in the real world. people can educate themselves by doing thier own research and other things like that. and i dont care that brooke shields went to princeton, bush went to yail, and thats not saying much seeing all of the stupid decisions he's made.

Nope, never said that...read what I said carefully..I mentioned "education" in a broad, quanitifable sense. I consider a plumber, electrician or tailor to be highly educated in their field. I doubt many went to formal university for those trades. Education comes in gaining a broad based, thorough knowledge of a specific field through both formal study and practical experience. University study, especially undergraduate work is designed to teach a student to learn how to learn. That is the skill they take away from college to the real world where they learn their careers. I gather, from your impression of university study that you are either a student or a very recent grad. The idea that a student actually learns material completely pertinent to a trade or profession is naive. I can say that as I felt the same way when I graduated college. It took years in the world and lots of experience to realize the true purpose of UG education. Grad school is a whole other realm. That's the place to learn specific material.

The trouble is, is that many people who never put the time, sacrifice, energy and money into truly learning a field of study, have no idea the actual scopes of knowlege encompassed by those fields, and thus, tend to overestimate their level of expertise when introduced to a tad bit of information. It is unfortunate that influential guys like Tom Cruise, who never had the fortitude to complete high school (from what I understand), have the ignorance and arrogance to self-proclaim their expertise in a field of which they probably know little, and verifiably know nothing.

When Mr. Cruise completes his quantifiable education in Psychiatry,(i.e. finish high school, attends a 4-year college...to learn how to learn...4-years of medical school, a full psychiatric residency and obtains licensure to practice, I will value his opinions on the subject, whatever they are. Until then, let him talk about what he knows...acting, parties, etc.

Keep in mind that self-education, although admirable, is not publicly quantifiable. Just because I personally have read a couple of national geographic articles on space exploration doesn't make me an astronaut.

First of all it's Yale. Secondly, there is absolutely no correlation between formal education and common sense. ZERO

I think you are a little confused about how a psychotropic drug works in comparison to a "happy pill" or "mother's little helper", meaning narcotics, uppers, downers, drugs like Valium. The body REACTS to narcotics and becomes addicted.

A psychotropic affects brain chemistry to correct an existing natural imbalance by rebalancing to what would be found in a so called "normal" brain (if there is such a thing).

Psychotropics are NON addictive. They ARE NOT happy pills. There is no euphoria or feelings of omnipotence, jumping up and clicking of heels. For most people it is a sense of relief at the removal of a burden allowing them to carry on a fairly normal life in a fairly normal manner.

The worst thing a person can do is quit taking a psychotropic suddenly. This will cause a radical swing in chemistry worse than the original imbalance.

The reason modern medicine exists is because the natural and home remedies couldn't cut it against many of the diseases and maladies out there. People used to die from the FLU because of the ineffectiveness of "natural" remedies.

Exercise and vitamins are good for everyone and burns off stress and tension. It will do NOTHING for a naturally occuring chemical imbalance in the brain.

Yeah, but according to "psychiatry expert" Tom, there's no such thing as a chemical imbalance in the brain. I think the school where he learned this "fact" should lose its accreditation immediately!;)

Add Cruse to the list of mega stars that are surrounded by "yes men" that will allow them to do/say anything. The list includes Elvis, Jacko, Madonna, Barbara Strisand and even Garth Brooks (remember that singer he tried to be. But maybe he snapped out of it). These folks were/are completely out of touch with real live everyday people and they think they can do and say anything and the rest of the world cares.

Remember they make thier living acting like others and singing songs. Someone else tells they what to say and to sing. A great gig if you can pull it off.
But completely out of touch with us slugs that go to work everyday.

    This just popped up recently:

    http://www.tomcruiseisnuts.com/

And this is pretty interesting, looks like he's got Katie Holmes brainwashed:

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162082,00.html

Katie Holmes: 'War' Has Just Begun

Katie Holmes' interview in W magazine has set off a firestorm.

Reading it can only be even more worrisome for her parents as they see the steady hold Tom Cruise and Scientology have taken of their beloved daughter.

There is no way to minimize the frightening aspect of the interview.

Holmes, who previously was a sweet, thoughtful, articulate young woman, now comes across like a zombie.

She's accompanied on the interview by Jessica Feshbach Rodriguez, her Scientology minder.

You may remember that I told you about Feshbach some weeks ago. Her family is a top financial donor to Scientology.

Feshbach, whom Holmes calls her "best friend" in the interview, after six weeks of knowing her, is a high-level Scientologist.

According to the various Web sites that monitor the L. Ron Hubbard-founded religion, Feshbach completed courses called "Security Checker Internship," "False Purpose Rundown Auditorship" and "Clear Certainty."

According to those who accompanied Holmes through her various publicity trips this spring, Feshbach has never left her side.

Neither have other "monitors" who followed Holmes everywhere she went, according to sources, constantly whispering in walkie talkie-like devices (those things that are strapped to wrists, connected to ear pieces) even when she was going to the bathroom.

In the meantime: Yesterday, the New York Post's Page Six gossip column reported a story that was sent out by an anti-Scientology watcher on Friday.

It's the news that Cruise and Nicole Kidman's 12-year-old daughter Isabella Cruise has been listed in the Scientology bulletin for completing the basic course. She's under the name "Bella Cruise."

This can only be heartbreaking for Kidman, who — as Holmes once was — is a devout Roman Catholic from an observant family.

This column reported exclusively a couple of weeks ago that the Cruise-Kidman kids are educated at Tom's home in Beverly Hills by his two sisters, with an emphasis on the teachings of Scientology.

This raises the question of who has custody of their children. The answer seems to be Cruise, because the kids must be in his home every day for their schooling.

As for Holmes, the W interview — conducted by Rob Haskell — features comments from the omnipresent Feshbach (who goes by her second husband's name, Rodriguez).

When Holmes is asked to describe her feelings for Cruise, Feshbach interrupts and says, "You adore him."

During the interview, Holmes — in a very choreographed stunt — receives an expensive "surprise" gift from Cruise.

If the whole point of the Cruise-Holmes "romance," though, was to sell "War of the Worlds," then it's time to take a look at the results.

"War" had a tough weekend, finishing second to "Fantastic Four" and taking in $31 million. That puts its domestic box office at $165 million.

The movie, however, cost $182 million. So how does that break down?

First, take $40 million off the top for Cruise and director Steven Spielberg.

Then split the remainder in half, because the record 3,900 screens on which the movie is playing get 50 percent of the take.

That leaves us with $67.5 million with which the studio can now pay bills.

But the bottom line is $120 million away. That would have been all right if "War" had had a bigger first weekend and more momentum now. But "Fantastic Four" has put one nail in its coffin.

Come Friday, both "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Wedding Crashers" will come like steamrollers over "War." The result is going to be bloody, with "War" likely to do less than $15 million and finish fourth.

For Cruise, it doesn't matter. He's rich, and he's isolated. If "Mission: Impossible 3" goes into production, he'll spend even more. Oprah will continue to bow to him, although, to her credit, even Rosie O'Donnell has publicly disowned him in the Brooke Shields deal.

For Spielberg, "War" is behind him. He's already making his next film, which — if he's on target — will wipe out all the bad feelings about "War."

The real loser in all of this? Why, Katie Holmes.

In the last few weeks, her agent and manager have been dismissed, and a really great, much-coveted film role — that of Edie Sedgwick — has been taken from her. The producers of "Batman Begins" already have said she won't be back for the sequel.

But she's still got her new best friend, and a watch from Tom.

There has to be something behind the payoff stories. His first wife, Mimi Rogers will not discuss him, nor will Nicole Kidman, although she was allegedly once asked in an interview "What can you do now that you're not married to Tom Cruise that you couldn't do when you were married to him?" She replied "wear high heels".

I don't have issue with a lot of what Tom says. I do see that he has trouble keeping composed if he doesn't have the answer to a question. I think he would come across better if he delayed his answers a few seconds and thought them out more. Clearly, he doesn't like to be cornered.

This info on Katie concerns me. I hope this is just a biased article and not the truth.

Brooke Shields was on Oprah today which i normaly wouldn't watch if you paid me but I was intrigued with what she might say about Tommy boy. I didn't catch any of that but the stories i heard about some of these women killing and harming thier kids was shocking. I think morons like Tom Cruise, Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley, etc, should stick to making movies and ****ty cable TV shows and shut the **** up about stuff they obviously know nothing about, go back to thier goddamned cult and wait for the mothership to land.

This guy just won't go away. I am so tired of hearing his name.

There was a time when I thought he was an excellent actor, and would go see just about any new movie that came out with him in it. Now, I would go out of my way not to see one of his movies because of how annoying I find him.

I only recently saw that interview, I believe it was with Matt Lauer, where Cruise was talking down to him in a fairly aggressive way. I don't know how Lauer kept himself from punching Cruise's lights out. Cruise came across as a lunatic fanatic, and continues to come across that way. It's really pathetic, and quite a shame.

He should stick to acting, and stop trying to convince the world to take up Scientology...........most people get very annoyed when they get an unsolicited sales pitch for a religion.

He is an excellent actor. It is a pity that someone can let their bias from appreciating his work.

He just may be more on the mark than any one of us thought. Recent news about the long/medium term impact of Ritalin etc. is not good and many suicides by children are attributed to them.

It's a pity that I have to hear every freaking detail about his personal life. It's also a pity that he chooses to discuss and push his choice of religion on everybody else. Yes, it is because of this that I will stay away from his movies. He obviously feels that because he is a famous actor, then everybody should hear his opinions on everything. If everyone chose not to go see his movies because of his preaching, then maybe he'll stop preaching and stick to acting.
