Assuming that either Zertec or Royhanks is able to fabricate a new fuse panel, does anyone know of a source for new connectors? The white plastic ones that plug into the fuse panel. I know there are at least 3 different ones. I could also use new wire ends (electrical connectors) that fit into the plastic connectors. Paul
Paul, Good question for our duelling fabricators -- will the existing connector strips plug in to the new box or will we have to plug the wires in one by one? Important issue. Steve W.
Guys, We are only rebuilding the board that is inside the fusebox. The shell that it goes into will be the same so the connectors will stay the same, with the same footprint. I would also be interested in some new connectors. An idea here is to find a few in good shape and we can have them duplicated. Jump on the net on search for plastic injection molding. I can have the parts drawn up if we need the CAD files. This is much like the approach I'm taking with the board.
Just to let you know, the first time since I've been in Iraq I get FChat internet access, this is the thread I check. I would agree that the white loom connector is almnost a big a deal as the circuit board. If possible, conversion to a readily available aircraft quality cannon plug would solve a lot of problems. Following closely, check back in a couple of weeks, rt
Anyone have a wiring diagram or schematics for this car? if so please send a copy to [email protected] thanks. we are almost there
Roy - Zertec Any updates available on your progress??? While my own need is not as great as it was I still would like to have a new panel. Come on guys, I am pulling for you! Paul
Hey Zertec, Any word on the upgraded circuit boards? Mine is developing some strange grounds I can't seem to track down. I'm resorting to wiring around the circuit board to correct problems. Let me know when you have a board ready for purchase, please. Thor
I am not exactly sure what fuse block Birdman sells, I have just seen a bunch of activity on this site aroud the fact that he has some sort of fuse block. If you block is different from his, I would be very interested in one for myself. Thanks for taking the time to produce this part. - Ron
Birdman makes a fuse block replacement for the 3x8s using Nuvolari's design described & illustrated in this thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43690 His product isn't relevant to this thread. The fuse block in this thread used by the newer Mondial Ts use a block with a circuit board inside with connectors soldered inot the circuit board. That's what this thread is all about.
ronfrohock, I believe Birdman has the fuse blocks for a 308 which will not work on a Mondial, darn it. Javelin276, What kinds of problems are you having? I have spent the better part of 8 months dealing with various fuse/electrical issues and have, for the moment, beaten them into submission. I will be glad to help if I can. Paul
Verell, It is not only Mondial T's that use the panel. My understanding is that it was used starting with the 1985 or 86 Mondial. It can also be used as a replacement in the 1980-1984 Mondial's. My car is an 82 and the later style panel went right in. The later style panel is an improvement, but sadly, not much of one. COME ON ZERTEC OR ROYHANKS !!!!! Paul
I had a drink with a friend to day who makes circuit boards. He has currently boards installed in Eurofighter, Airbus 380 and Boeings. But he still helps the small guys. If anyone can provide the specs he will design, copy , make templates or whatever these people do to make some new boards. The price he implied was very reasonable. If anyone would like me to find out more, I will happliy do so, If your already sorted dont worry, the offer is there to the guys who have already done lots of researchand who know more about these things than me. A single borad reproduced is possible or bulk load he will do whatever is wanted,, for anything with a printed board. ANyone with other boards that need reproducing mail pm me.
Jon Is he based at broughton in north wales? if he is he can use my Mondi's board to make a prototype (provided I get a good deal on a new one and he doesnt destroy the old one) Pm me if interested
Jon22, YES, FIND OUT MORE!!! Count me as interested and I do have an old one (later style with blade type fuses) that your friend can use as a model. Please be sure he knows there are several circuits that need to be beefed up vs the original. Such as the fuel pump, A/C, lights and radiator fan circuits. Earlier in this thread, 5/16/05, Royhanks sounded like he was getting close to having a board in production but he must have run into some sort of snag as he has been silent since that time. What price did he "imply"? Paul
I dont want to tread on anyones toes, as if roy hanks is close to getting one made then I will let him carry on,, but iof there is a problem, then maybe i can help. He is based in Norfolk, I will give hime the link to this site so he can comment perhaps later.
I've all but given up on Royhanks or Zertec coming up with anything. I have a friend here in NJ who has a small shop that manufactures custom circuit boards. He's an electrical engineer and a circuit board designer, and an inventor, and can fabricate just about anything. If we can get him a sample box and a wiring diagram, he can build us a better mousetrap. I've held off approaching him about it because Roy and Zer each claimed to be ready to go into production. Seeing nothing in the last 6 months, I'm ready to look for an alternative.
FasterIsBetter, I have a used new style box with the blade type fuses. I do not have an electrical diagram for the box internals. The best I can do is a diagram of the relay locations and the connectors. If that will help your friend let me know. Paul
Paul, I have a book with the wiring diagrams for my car ('84 QV Euro). I can't imagine that the wiring is that different in the US spec cars. Message me off-list and lets talk about how we can proceed with this. Thanks, Steve
I have sent a link to this page to my freind and he can read all the specs and comments,, then he can give us a price etc.
FasterIsBetter (Steve), My spare fuse panel is on the way to you and should be there by Wednesday. I sure hope your friend can find a way to crank out a few new ones for me and several others here. Let me/us know what he has to say, can he do it, how quickly can he do it, will the cost be reasonable? Jon22 (Jon), Any word from your friend? Is he still thinking of trying to reproduce the panel? Guys, I sure hope one of your friends can come through. Paul
All of us really appreciate this project. Will just add that real weak points a couple of us have also found are the cheapo plastic connectors where the wire loom plugs into the box. Even though it would be some installation work, please consider a different type of connector, ideally perhaps a commercially available aviation spec Canon plug or similar. best rt
I want to replace the fuse box on my 83 Mondial QV. It is the torpedo/bullet type fuses. It has been progressively getting worse. It started with the fuel pump fuse. I now believe the A/C part to be failing. My indicators and stop lights are now intermittant. Is there a fuse box upgrade out there? UK or USA ?
