Best/Worst country to own a Ferrari...

I´ll vote for the worst...

Switzerland.
Speed Nazis make Hitler look like your slightly conservativ leaning grumpy old ´gramps. Do more then 40(kms) over the limit and they take a quarter of your salary and you driving license. I was ticketed for 11km´s over limit on the highway (4-5 miles) and got a 120USD fine. A Russian ambassador was fined 3KUSD for around 15miles over limit.
Which is all a shame, since the roads are fabulous, scenary stunning and very safe, you can leave your ferrari unlocked.

 

Oh, I don't know, I think that Greenland might be worse!

Worst country to drive in would probably be Iran. Most deaths on the roadways than any other country. Most don't care about traffic lights either and just drive even if there are others going through.

 

I remember my Swiss friend would go nuts if I drove his car only a few km's over. Once we hit Italy is was a free-for-all though.


It was hilarious: we had a headlight burn out on the trip home from the Riviera to Zurich. We noticed it right after Gotthard and my friend started getting really paranoid that we'd get pulled over for the light. "Relax!" I kept saying... it had only been like 5 hours since it burned out! In the US I had gone weeks with only one light before.


Sure enough, we hit the Zurich city limits and there were the police behind us, lights flashing. We pulled into a freeway rest stop and after a few minutes negotiation they let my friend off without a ticket but he had to go into the store and buy a headlight (which was like 20 euros at the convenience store).

 

The worst?
Ever try to drive a Ferrari in Venice Italy?

 

Anywhere in South America, Africa, many parts of Asia

It makes you a great target for kindnapping

I try to fly under the radar in SA, you need to be as low key as possible to avoid trouble

Horrible roads plus having a Ferrari definitely makes you a "High Value Target!"

VN.... the fastest we can drive is about 5 mph....one of my biz partners owns a SL55 for over a year and the speedometer has never seen pass 7 mph...

I wouldn't necesserily call Quebec the best, but apart from atrocious roads and winters it is pretty good. Retarded cops and it is safe to park a 'rarri on the street. It has that as Homer Simpson says "I don't know what".

The Worst (and no offense to the country): The Republic of Korea. Those people drive crazy! Plus, there is no consideration for another car's well being. We'd joke saying, "He who has the biggest POS has the advantage."

The Best: The United States of America. Where else can you drive around the islands of Hawai'i, from Anchorage to Fairbanks past Denali, up the Going to the Sun Highway in northwest Montana, along the coasts of California, through the Rocky Mountains, experience the Dragon's Tail in North Carolina, the list goes on and on. No visas. No passports. We Americans have it made. It's all about freedom.

A Solid Second for Best is Australia.

EDIT: Just to quantify my opinion, I will add that I've been to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Mexico, Maylasia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Japan, Canada (Quebec for two GPs, BC, Saskatchewan and Alberta) and Australia (two GPs as well). I'll report back about Afghanistan...

 

Just considering OWNERSHIP part, the best is Japan. I hear no other country offers a loan directly from Ferrari dealers for F purchase. (some US F dealers I dealt in the past send me to other financial institute for loans, but I never used them so don't know any details) This suppose to make it easier for them to buy F cars.

 

the worst is a no brainer, it's the united states -- we have strictly monitored speed limits. the best is a little more difficult, but for me it comes down to europe and asia. obviously germany with the auto bahn is up there, but i think the better reason to pick germany would be their drivers. they are more skilled at driving high speeds, and have more rigourous training for drivers permits. with that said, asia is still up there with the best. most of the asian country's (with a few exceptions like vietnam, lao's, and cambodia) have modern highways. nobody follows the posted speed limits (with a few exceptions), and even if you get stopped a few dollars goes a long way with the police. my personal favorite would have to be thailand -- the upper deck expressway going from bangkok to chonburi where you can regularly get passed by f-cars and other exotics going 200 kmh or 125+ mph. cheers, kelly

Actually if you can get some good political connections & your bodyguards have a car that can keep up with you, Uruguay has some fantastic roads & no speed limits, most of the country is empty save for a few donkey carts

I once drove my 3000VR4 across most of Uruguay which is like driving a Lambo Murcielago roadster in the US

 

The best place: no problem, Germany wins all the way. Enen if unrestricted autonahan are getting rare, it is still a great place to drive as other drivers are aware that something fast could come from behind.
The worst place: IMHO Manila, Philippines, wins the contest. I have been in many places, but the only one that is just close is Karachi in Pakistan. Reasons for it? traffic, no rules and horrendous street, in addition to a 100 kph speed limit...

Mexico would be the pits. May as well wear a Tee shirt with a target. The national pastime is installing "topes" ;speed bumps. They are not considered highways , but elongated parking lots.

 

I'll have to agree. Don't tell me I didn't warn yeah! It's probably the case for most 3rd world countries.
