Some of you may remember the discussion we had some months ago about the Nikko Ferrari F1 car at Frys for $159. I look at that car every time I go in that store, but the price seemed a little too high to me. That has changed. I went in the Plano Frys last night and it's marked down to $69.90! I had one in my hand, ready to buy it, then I saw the Enzo remote car for $85. Damn it. It's only 2 weeks until my birthday and my wife always complains that I'm hard to buy for. Now I not only have to wait 2 weeks, but I have to decide which car I'd rather have.

If you've been waiting, now's the time to buy. The Williams F1 car is marked down to $59.90, it used to be $139.

One last item, the Mattel Outlet is having their clearance sale this week, no telling what kind of deals they have. It ends tomorrow.

I went by Fry's in Plano today.
After hanging out on the toy isle with a bunch of 8-10 year olds I decided on the Ferrari F1 car, its 15 km faster than the Enzo, that did it for me. They had about 4 Ferrari F1's - 4 Enzo's - 2 Williams F1's left. My wife always says she is raising 3 boys, I guess she is right.

    Thanks for the tip Jim.

That's what I'm wrestling with too Brian. I like the speed/size of the F1, but I REALLY like the Enzo better. I also know that you can change the crystals on the F1 car, not sure if you can with the Enzo. What to do, what to do.

Buy the F1 car. I believe it has analog steering (meaning if you move the controls very slightly, it will turn very slightly. Just like a real car.)

The Enzo at Fry's which has digital steering (only three choices, full right, straight ahead, or full left.)

Once I return the F1 car and get one that works I will let you know what I think.

Got the first one returned OK.

Second car ran really fast, actually too fast for my 5 year old to handle on a city street with a storm drain. After the F1 / storm drain removal project and a few minor repairs we took it to a high school parking lot. I recommend the high school parking lot.

BUY BOTH! Since they're on sale, you are actually getting 2 for the price of 1, and have a wonderful back-up. Besides, you can play w/ your kids at the same time! If I have a time to go Fry's, that's what I will.

My question: what do you do with these remote cars when you're not using? Any good idea?

Anybody else fall for this? I know so far that Yoshi, Phil, and Brian have been unable to resist. Two of them bought both cars!

The F1 is faster than the Enzo, and easier to control. They are a blast!

Tried to race them together and they both have the same green crystal so both operated off one hand controller. What does it cost to change crystals? Also do you other F1 guys have the green crystal too?

Woah .. the F1 car is really fast ... It is my first R/c car ... so probably I am not used to it. To those of you who bought this car and hve had other r/cs before how does it compare.

The car does great donuts too! :)

I guess it is a matter of getting used to it but the steering is painful for a newbie. I wish it had a simple playstation like controller with two joysticks for controlling it.. I also get foxed whent he car is headed towards me I always turn the wrong way.... :)

Does anyone want to guess what I got for my birthday? F1 2003 GA. And yes, it's fast. It's the only remote control car I've ever had that will do donuts. Sadly, I've already lost the nut that holds on the rear wheel. I guess I'm going to have to call and order some replacements.

I would love to get one of those, but I don't have any place to drive it. My gravel driveway would require mounting of 4x4 tires on the F1 2003 GA. Did you see that option available? :D

So Ron, you're never near a parking lot? The battery only lasts for 20 mins or so then takes 4 hours to recharge. Buy it, drive somewhere, use it, go home, plug it in.

Saw a flyer for this RC event at Walmart in Hillsboro this morning:

    Friday August 26th - Sunday August 28, 2005

    AMA Grand Event

The eighth AMA Grand Event will be held in Waco, Texas at the Heart of Texas Miniature Aircraft Club flying site, located off Park Road 3 in Speegleville Park near State Highway 6, and is hosted by the Heart of Texas Miniature Aircraft Club (HOTMAC), AMA Chartered Club # 613.

This event provides hands-on modeling experience to everyone by offering activities such as Radio Control aircraft, cars and boats, as well as kite flying, rockets, and control line. Opportunities for “Make-and-Take” items like kites and rockets make this an interactive event. Attendance is FREE!

The event is scheduled to start at noon on Friday, August 26th until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28th. A detailed schedule will be posted closer to the event.

Went to Hobby Lobby and got the Crystal change for the Enzo. Cheap and plug in easy. Bought a '67 Shelby ( my favorite year) 1/18 Cragar addition with my old Cragar SS on it. Not original but brings back memories. While there watched them fly an amazing little helicopter around the store. Twin styrofoam blades that are easy and cheap to replace. I asked the guy how many crashes it took to get that good,a and he said about 2 month, and $100 in repairs so far, not too bad. Cost to get in to it about $400. Anybody else seen or have one of these. I think I need one.
Couple of pics. Bill Neale's '67 Shelby and my first car. 1966 Buick GS 401 Nailhead. 325hp 2 speed slushomatic. 14.9 at Green Valley. Check out those Cragar's. Pic was from Dallas International Motor Speedway, site of the Texas Music Festival - (woodstock revisited).
