or could he get in it? I tried sitting in a miata and i couldnt get my knee between the steering wheel and the door when my foot was on the clutch (seat all the way back). So how are 308s?
308's are small. I suspect head room will be your problem. Leg room is probably sufficient with the seat all the way back. 348's have a little more room up top or buy a GTS/spyder and drive it when it's sunny.
Well I'd have to shrink an inch but it is no problem. Seat all the way back and tilt the back all the way and use a 1 inch extension on the steering wheel and adjust the wheel up a little and I have about 2 inch head clearance. 6'4" and 245 and old , with no problems. Enjoy the ride
I am 6'4" and have a 328 GTSI. Tight however, the limiting factor is your weight. I have lost a few lb's and I can notice the differance. Kirk
Kirk is correct about weight. I am 6'3" and 190 pounds and fit fine in my 308. Then again, I have long legs compared to my body. Ken
I am 6-1, and when I first tried on a 81 GTS I was very forlorn, as I didnt fit very well. Actually I didnt think I could even drive the car. After some discussion I learned I had to relearn how to sit in a car, and yes, thats what you have to do. Most cars conform to you, but a 308 does not conform to anyone. Unless of course your Italian. I was eventually able to drive the GTS after i removed my shoes and found more seat travel, but it was very tight. If you are long in your back and short in your legs, you are probably screwed, at least in a GTS. If your the other way around you might be okay. I bought a GTB for the simple reason that its a different car with more seat travel and more head room. So much more in fact, that I dont need the seat all the way back, but actually have to pull it forward a few inches. All the way back I cant fully push in the clutch, lol. I bet you could drive it just fine. The GTS will vary depending on if the top is on or off. Tom Selleck had to drive his cars with the top removed, and padding removed from the seat bottom, as well as some alterations to the seat track for longer travel. Good luck~
They had to actually "take the seat out" for tom and manually extend it back more.. because he was too tall to fit in the car correctly
You could hire a shorter, slighter guy to drive it for you (I'm 5'8"). If the 308 pedals are like the 328's (splayed right due to the wheel well), shoe size might be more of an issue. Definitely drive one before you buy, and wear the shoes you might wear when you took the car out for a drive.
I'm 6'-3" and have no problem fitting in my GTS as long as the top is not stored behind the seat. If it is behind the seat I can't get the seat back far enough.
I'm a little over 6' 3", thin, and have normal width 10.5 shoe size. I have to wear narrow driving type shoes to have room to work the pedals. Corbeau racing type seats all the way back and tilted all the way, no room for top but I fit well enough to drive comfortably. I think you're in trouble with size 13s.
I'm 6-3, 250#, 12 shoes. I fit fine, with the seat all the way back. A little crowded with the roof behind the seats and not bad with the roof on. Although, my car had a modification done when new for the suspected sports star owner, the drivers floor was replaced with a slight drop-down for the seat rails, really excellent work from someone. With the seats in, if you look closely, you can see the drivers seat is slightly lower. No one has ever noticed without me telling them. It works good for me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
As mentioned by others, try one on to see. The experiences of others may not help if they have longer legs than you or vice versa. If you are getting serious about buying one, consider whether or not you will want to do the type of driving that will require a helmet (autocross, FCA track events, etc). This will add two inches to your height.
I fit comfortably in a GTB.......but not the GTS........and I am 6' 1"........ The size 13 shoe can be trouble though (I have 10's and it's tight)......you'll need the proverbial pointy Italian shoe to make clutch work easier
Larry, Not to hijack the thread, but how much of a drop down was achieved by replacing the floor pan? I've been thinking about doing that to my car in that I use the car mostly for track events, and want to lower the seating as much as possible. I already have OPM seats mounted directly to the floor. -Paul
At first my size 14 tennis shoes were a problem but I've gotten use to the pedals and it's not really a problem anymore.
I have a 86 GTS 328 & a 92 Miata and can get in & out of the miata easier but I think there is more leg room in the 328 once you get in. I'm 6'1" and have no problems with either car. Good Luck Dave W
I'm 6'1" and got a bit crampy when first got into my 328GTS but after getting used to it with a few trips then I don't feel it and it now quite comfy.
I'm 6"2 and 75kg. I found no problems with my old '76 308 GTB although it did have an aftermarket Momo steering wheel. My later 328 GTB was a tighter fit because of the more substantial seats but still OK. Hope this helps.
