Pizzeria Uno is good. Too bad they aren't in LA any more. edit: At least there's Doria's Haus of Pizza!
Extra cheese, pepperoni, ground beef, throw in some onion, mushroom good to go. I stay away from the franchise pizza stores and prefer the independants. Greek pizza is also one of my favorites with Feta cheese and olives.
Like Darth550 I have a favorite Brasilian place too..... "Deck" restaurant on Avenida Atlantica in Rio de Janeiro.......rodizio do pizza R$14.......the best ones are the strawberry and chocolate and the white chocolate and cinammon pizzas.
I generally only order two different types of pizzas: Ground beef and green pepper or pinapple from Dominos. There are no good pizza places around here I miss NYC.
Shrimp Scampi from Steve's wood fire pizza in Boca Raton is awesome - otherwise, old reliable is CPK's BBQ chicken.
And the pizza recipe that Uno's sends to the chains isn't even the original recipe from their locations (Uno's and Due's) in downtown Chicago. Now that's a treat. I'm highly biased, but Chicago style deep dish tops anything. NY pizza is a snack, not a meal. Tops on my list, Lou Malnati's buttercrust with sausage. Runner-up, Gino's East, also with sausage. The kick to Gino's is that their sausage pizza has one thin sausage patty that covers the entire pizza. Gino's used to be my favorite, but something has changed there. When I'm feeling cheap, Pizza Hut will do in a pinch.
Oddly, Detroit has some of the best pizza in the world. Buddy's is the traditional fave, but Shield's pizza may be the best on earth.
Yes, a great pizza will be good without it. Though I do like pie sometimes with topping, eg. eggplant and Ricotta. I like light on the cheese, thin crust, well done. Francescas in Great Neck, across from the Train station. Great!
I like pepperoni, mushrooms, jalapenos, black olives. I have been all over(chicago, NYC, etc..) tasting Pizza as it is my favorite food and I find Star pizza in Houston to be the best.
pappy keno's veggie hand-tossed crust....no cheese...tops with spinach, asparagus, broccoli, zuchini and garlic sauce.
Pizza Pirate Powder Keg: Medium crust, chicken chunks & celery, covered with cayenne pepper and hidden valley ranch dressing. Hot buffalo wing pizza without the bones really. Good stuff. OR, Lansplitter's Neopolitan with ham and anchovies (and Death and Taxes to wash it down). Mmmmm
