Just spent the thick-end of £1K at Rossa Corsa having my AC checked out. pipes, filters etc only for them now find that the compressor is knackered, they want another £750 to resolve (£500 of parts). Should I do it or just wind the window down?

Does anybody know a Co (in the UK) that could service my original compressor? This maybe a cheaper option.

Which style compressor do you have,
ie: is it an Aspera which is an italian clone of a York compressor,
or a Sanden which is a cylindrical style compressor?

    Verell,
Would you be able to tell from an image? Its still fitted to the car but I guess I could remove it if needed.

    Hi,
Rcv'd your eMAIL, but think that we might as well continue here so it'll be available for future reference.

Yes, post a couple of pictures & I can tell which style compressor you have. If it looks like a small lawnmower engine with a crankcase, then it's a York style, either a true York, or more likely an Aspera.

You're in London. What do you need air conditioning for? It never gets hot enough to warrant turning it on over there. Remove the entire AC unit and save the weight and add a few HP to your car. Today, it's going to hit 97 deg. F in NYC metro area, 95% humidity. THAT'S when you need AC, not those 75 to 80 deg. F days in London. ;-)

I think there is a few of us UK'ers who might disagree. The A/C in my Accord has never worked. It was expensive to get it fixed and I went along with the, its the UK so we don't need it. We do. The one thing electrically that works in my Mondial very well is the A/C (apart from it's fuse hotting up :D). it is fantastic on these summer days.

MondialMike: I am in a similar (though not quite as expensive) dilemma with the dreaded fuse box. IMHO the car is worth it. If you can afford it ;)

It's a York type compressor fer sure. That flat head is pretty distinctive. What's kind of strange is that the high side fitting is parallel to the low side fitting. Usually the high side fitting comes in at an angle or even 90 degrees relative to the low side fitting.

Would have to see the crankcase to see if it's an Aspera or a York. (Aspiras have somewhat cylindrical crankcases, Yorks have straight sided ones.)Doesn't matter much, as the replacement is going to be a York anyway. I'd look for an A/C specialty shop that services trucks or boats. York style compressors made by CCI are still widely used for those applications.

You will have to re-use your current clutch as it's a ferrari unique part. May have to re-use the hose fittings, altho on that side of the pond metric fittings may be quite common.
