i know im a little late on the boat here, but i picked this up today. Any of you guys here are into it? What server/nick are you all on? And one question for y'all, which class is the best to start off with?
Ssshhh.. I was gonna post it up in the business and investments forum... But i got distracted by Uro's finger smelling thread....
I was going to post about WoW, but I see someone already started a thread. My first question is how addictive and time consuming is it? The last thing I need is something consuming my time, but the game looks really good. I was really into Multi-User text based RPG's in college from 1994-1996. I was also a big player of all the Warcraft releases, which I know WoW is completely different. So what do you think about WoW? Is it something I could play a few hours a week and have fun or will it take over my life?
A friend of mine got it and spent days and days on it... he was finishing college and would play until 3-4 AM a few nights a week. And he's not a typical gamer, but he's hooked on that.
I say we start a GUILD and KRANG!! I'll help you POWER LEVEL!! look me up on the USA Dark Spear server under "STACKHOUSE" a dwarven Paladin with PIMP ARMOR BABY!!! Ok now the story...My Bro inlaw talked me into getting the game. Its very interesting since I have never played anything like it before! Its like a cross between F-chat and D&D lol. I must admit that my favorite thing is to make money!! lol the economic system is a blast to exploit!! Anyway look me up and we can form a guild and kick A$$!!!
lol Love ya man!! Ever see Team America, when Gary hits the bar and ends up in the alley... yeah thats where I have been... lol I Just made it back to the computer to get my fix of F-chat.
I played it for awhile. Got level 60 and was in some guild that killed all of the top-end crap available (meaning everything in the game). Our guild website is here: www.ieguild.com Was alot of fun but man, that game takes up soooo much time. If your looking for something to pop into now and then and enjoy, I'd look elsewhere, or you better hope you have a the willpower to not get addicted. Its fun but man it sucks you in (and requires alot of time to get anywhere).
How many hours of play did it take you to go level 60? In the MUD's I use to play it would take 100+ hours to go level 30 and about 10% of your total hours for each additional level.
A friend plays it about as casually as one can and he has two top level characters. The leveling isn't a grind at all from what I gather.
I've been playing it since day one... have recently cancelled my account though. Be ready to loose hours on end and gain pounds on your rear end.... Lots of fun while working your way up, etc... but once you hit level 60 and do most of the major raids etc, it gets stale with time. Join one of the larger guilds, it'll make your experience even more enjoyable I had a lvl 60 shaman, good times
What's the story with player houses in WoW? I played UO many years ago until they made it wussyfied and wouldn't allow people to steal or get pk'ed. One of the most fun things about that game was the player housing etc.
There are no player housing in the game at this stage, but will be implemented in the future. You can be "ganked" on a PVP server, which i play on, and that is awesome. I always stick to the line..."If it's red, it's dead"
I'll probably wait then. I played Lineage for a little while and didn't really get into it. Games that are pure character development bore me. I really enjoyed UO in the early days before they made a "safe" world and a regular one. You'd go out to hunt, mine or explore and never knew if you were going to get jumped. It sucked when you did but it made it much more exciting to have to sneak around and be careful. When you could just walk out and do whatever there was no excitement to it and it started to suck hardcore. We broke into a guys house one time and stole everything we could get our hands on. He had a house next to a friend of ours and when he came back he was pissed. He thought his friends robbed him since the door was still locked from the outside. That's the kind of stuff that made that game a lot of fun.
Gotta admit, UO was pretty complicated. WOW is much better and with a lesser learning curve i think. Lin2 is for hardcore Korean Gold farmers who get stacked up in aircraft hangers at abandoned airports and farm gold all day. Blizz has taken steps to stop this in WOW, but it still happens. visit www.ige.com
