Considering a high mileage 328GTS

Your price range is pretty reasonable assuming the car has not had a recent major and is in average condition. If he has had a major recently you may need to think a little higher (but certainly no more then 30k). If the car is in very nice shape and just has high mileage you will not get it for that price range. More in the low to mid 30's.

My opinion is based on market guides and what newer ones sell for (that I have seen sell).

 

There's a few around with that kind of mileage. There's a red/tan based out of Dallas with 105K, it's running fine. There's an Fchatter with (I believe) 145K or so on his 328. Mine has 79K, running great.

Unfortunately, there's just not a whole lot of data about super high mileage 328s. If the car's been maintained, it should be fine, as the block has Nikasil liners.

Going to be HARD to resell the car, make sure you're keeping it for the long haul. 27K sounds good (if the seller will take it), hard to beat a 328 for 308GTSi pricing. Most buyers will run screaming from this car due to mileage, press the seller hard on pricing.

Do you know the serial number by chance?

 

I would bargain hard on the price. Assuming the motor is fine (probably is) the biggest problems with high mileage examples is worn out suspension parts, and a rebuild is not cheap, so check that carefully. If it's already been done--great. If the car has needs, you could pay 27K, but quickly be in it for 40K. And for 40K, you could have bought a nice one with say 40K miles. That's the equation that works against high mileage cars.

Ferrari 328 Euro has a drop dead beautiful 328 with 145k miles currently I believe. This Ferrari puts my very nice 348 spider to shame! Runs super, nothing major other than regular service. As a point of reference this wonderful Ferrari took Platinum at the recent Hartford Concorso! A testament to the strength of the car and the owner’s commitment!

 

It really gets down to condition. Plenty of those 40,000 mile cars are closer to 140,000 in reality. High mileage will give you some bargening room though. Have a PPI done by someone you trust or comes highly recommended.

In Dec 2003 it was reported to me for sale with speedometer issues and a known repaint. I don't have the seller information.

In January 04 it was offered on ebay by "69camarodude396", auction won by "amx-platinum" for $33,900. No mileage listed at that auction, car was listed as having "fresh oil change and service". It was in Washington state at that time.

I haven't had an update since then. Hope this helps. You might contact NNO and see what the FML has on the car.

Funny, I saw this same car earlier today in an ad. Carfax shows odometer problems. Reading reported on 04/18/1996: 106,934 miles !
It's been 9 years since then, so the mileage could be MUCH higher.

I don't specifically remember the car you are asking about EXCEPT for that mileage deal I DO remember!!!

The mileage was WAY off. Like they claimed less mileage than it had back in the early 90s. Yes, this WAS the car I ran a Carfax on. I would stay FAR away from it. FAR away.

With high mileage, you may have to do a rebuild someday soon. For probably close to what you would be paying for the car NOW!! And with partial records and high mileage, who the heck would buy it from YOU down the road with even MORE mileage.

Get a better car. In the Ferrari-world "high mileage" means over 60K miles!! And that is only 3K miles per year. Personally, I LIKE cars driven at least 3K per year. Any less and they are garage queens that will eat your pocketbook!!

Look for one in the 60K range IMO. You can still get a "deal" and still get a car that is 50K miles away from being in the mileage range of the one you are looking at now. And how long would it take you to put 50K on that car?? Probably 10 YEARS!!!

Buy a better one.

 

I have heard second hand of a 100+K miles 328 sold for $28K about 2-3 years ago, so this price range is realistic.

 

I think the $26 - $28K is reasonable for a 100K mile car. The problem is that the cars seem to bottom out probably due to the value of the parts (not that I think cars need to be parted out). I have collected auction data on around 100 328 GTS's from near zero to about 70K miles. If you spend a little time you may be able to find a reasonable private seller for a 50K mile car in the $32K range or so.

Throwing in the plug for myself, in collecting all of the auction data before buying my 328 I decided to make graphs from it & put it on EBay for some F-car pocket money. Just search under 328 price guild & you'll find it with a full desciption of the info I collected. Also have about the same amount of data on 308 QV's and 348 TS's as I was considering all when looking for a good deal.
