I've never owned one, and don't plan on getting one as long as they're accepted as a modern convenience rather than a necessity. It's just the poor etiquette that so many people display that completely puts me off. Everywhere I go, all people in sight have their ear glued to those things. What's so important? I guess my life is more boring than everyone else.

And don't get me started on those ringtones. My god.

The real PITAs are the walkie-talkie type direct-connect or whatever wandering around WalMart with some dork on the other end discussing what kind of butter to buy.

I do have a cellphone. Comes in handy at times. :)

I don't like them. I prefer not to be available but they are excellent for emergencies.

    ditto.

I have been getting annoyed at people walking around, pacing, in stores talking loudly. I've done "the block" where the guy comes up to you, turns around - video game-ish and walks in another direction.

Convenience has gotten out of hand.

I cannot understand what people have so much to talk about with there Cell Phones. I can see how they will be usefull for a person that is in traveling sales or that has a mobile worksite but as for every thing else it seems overkill.

Just to show how little i use my Cell is i my unused mins rollover to the next month in 4 months i have nearly 2300 mins to use durring the weekdays.

Randy, one of the perks about leaving the corporate world - no more stinkin' Blackberries!!

I launched my 7510 off my balcony one time (which is on the 2nd floor) into the street. It went another 20-30ft higher and 100ft horizontally before it landed with a crash in the street (purposefully), skidded 10 feet up the ramp of someone's driveway and came to a rest on the sidewalk.

I walked downstairs and across the 4 lane road satisfied only to discover the screen didn't crack and the damn thing still worked fine. It only took 4 minutes to boot up the first time and than it resumed normal operation.

I don't care for them either. Now that I've hung up my "sales" hat and don't have clients that require 24hr handholding I like my phone better. I only have one rule for my phone. It's for MY convenience. Not yours, and not for anybody who happens to be calling. If I feel like talking, I'll answer, otherwise I'll get back to you. I use my phone to make calls now, rather than taking them constantly.

One day when I'm as fortunate as Uro and can retire to a life of leisure I'll do away with phones of all sorts. Probably nix the mail as well and the only way someone will be able to reach me is by carrier pidgeon. One day.....

Guy across the street has spent the last two days with a bucket and dustpan, scooping up gravel from the road- they just finished recoating it and there is excess gravel along the sides- and toting bucketfulls down onto his property by the river. This guy could easily afford to call somebody to deliver truckloads of the stuff if he wanted to. So, yesterday, when i saw him doing this, i said, 'Hey, Larry! WTF? Why are you doing this?'
He said, "It's because i don't have a computer at home."
I said, 'WTF?' (i'm not that articulate); he said, 'Yeah, most people use the computer to kill time.' 'Me, i think it's just a fad.'

So, that's my punchline. It's just a fad. I hate 'em. The vast majority of conversations are pointless. They are advertised to mindless ****s who look for thousands of free minutes to engage in pointless conversations "Yes, Hullo," "I'm now on 3d Avenue. Thinking about lunch...".
I particularly like the sluggards in the left lane, latte in one hand (excuse me, skinnie def), and cell in the other, driving the ubiquitous Armada or Land Cruiser, chatting about everything except how ****ty they drive.
Buy a cell phone blocker. They are about 300 dollars. Well worth it. You'll never have to get into an argument in a restaurant with one of those ignorant heathen again.

My cellphone is indispensible......but I utterly hate those two way Motorola things that you referred to however......

As for Blackberries......the only use for those is in one of my mom's homemade pies.

They're the biggest techno-geek P.O.S. to ever come to market......if something is just that important that you have to know about it.....you can call someone on their cellphone.

I was in the supermarket last week and this woman was standing behind her cart yapping into her cellphone not paying any attention to what is going on around her she had the aisle that she was in blocked off and also the adjoining aisle so I figured as I walked towards her she would move her cart but nooooooooooo she just keeps yapping away I literally had to move her cart while she just stood there ignoring me and yapping away. I should of flipped her friggin' cart over.

I hate when people are in public places with cell phones and using them. Escp. if you go out to dinner with family.

Also, I hate the new "gadget" phones with cameras, videos, ect. And lastly, I hate that you got 12 and 13 year olds with phones yapping all day. What is the real need for a 12 and 13 year old to have a cell phone?

Cell phones are great when they are not use for dumb and excessive reasons.

I don't understand the outrage against public use of cell phones. If the person on the other end of the line was standing there in front of you, would you be so outraged by the two having a conversation in public? If not, what is it that pisses you off so much about them having a conversation over a telephone? Is it the fact that you can only eavesdrop on half of the conversation?

I would have told them to hang the phone up or I will do it for them. Some people aren't too bright and "nasty" and "in your face" is the only way they will (for the moment) understand.

Simply put, YES, I hate them, even my own.

They don't work as well as claimed.

    THEY CAUSE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS.

I too think it is exteremely rude to force the general public (in close proximity) to listen to ones personal conversation.

I would LOVE to have a jammer in a restaurant. If a person gets a call at the table they should excuse themselves and and go talk in the foyer next to the PAY PHONES. That's why they put them out there and not in the dining room.

With that said mine came in very handy on our last club drive when the group got spread out in Eastern Washington. It also came in handy when I broke down in the middle of the night.

No, it's that people using cell phones are more predisposed to rudely ignore their surroudings. Read the stories people are telling.

The problem with phones, I find, is that anytime somebody ever calls you, they want something. Nobody ever calls you to give you something...

That said, I do understand the usefulness of having one. I always have one in the car with me. Off. I don't turn it on unless I am expecting someone to call (i.e., when the wife was 9 months pregnant, or when we are out and I leave it on so that the babysitter can call in case of emergency).

I bought one of those trackphones with the pay as you go plan. For something like $95, you get about 300 minutes, which don't expire for a whole year. I have never gone through all 300 minutes.

    Dom
