I am looking at buying a 91 TR, but have found the pedals to be quite close together, a problem with size 13 feet. My 308 QV was wonderful (in squash shoes), but in the TR I just cannot keep the edges of my shoes from hitting the neighbouring pedals, especially when operating the clutch. The problem seems to be a function of offset. My question is whether the removal of the dead pedal would help, has anyone done anything else to remedy this? I have seached the archives and guess barefoot is an option, or maybe some proper driving footwear. I have been on this diet for a few months now, my feet don't seem to get much smaller...
With size 12.5 I too found the same foot width/pedal interference problem. Tried the diet too and the only thing that got smaller on me I can't drive with so now I eat like a horse again . Go for a pair of driving shoes. I bought a pair of Puma Speed Cats and they are superb.
Sounds great. I will look for them. Funny that the widest sports car on the planet has the narrowest pedal box.
You might pick-up 6~8mm more clearance by removing the stock dead pedal cover if you (or Paul Hill ) can fabricate a "less-wide", flat cover and accept the edge flange of the brace underneath showing a bit when viewed from the passenger side (close-up flash photos like these always exaggerate what you can really notice in the footbox area IMO so I think it would be OKish). Compare the distance from the mounting screw in the upper right corner to the edge of the stock dead pedal cover and from that same hole to the edge of the brace underneath. Don't know if you could nibble the brace underneath away for even more clearance without consequence -- I wouldn't unless I was very, very sure it was non-structural (and cutting that edge flange in any way will drop the stiffness a bunch). What's your height? Are you using the stock TR steering wheel and no steering wheel extension? I'd recommend not doing either. I am 6'4" and am surprised at the closeness of the pedals. Removing the dead pedal may help, the car has a 512TR steering wheel (smaller than stock) and decent knee room. Pedal spacing seems the issue. On an unrelated note, I checked postings for people who did their own major on a TR, did anyone ever compile a CD or book on the steps? I am thinking of doing my own major (no decent service people in Dubai). Thanks.
Wasn't disputing that the TR pedal positions are more extreme than most -- I notice it too compared to my ex-308. IMO it just shows how far forward the driver needs to be placed in a low-roofed, mid-engined 12 and the fairly large size of the TR front tire (yet it still has the turning radius of an oil tanker ). Can you post a jpeg of your 512TR steering wheel installation? I'm curious if it added extra distance from the instrument panel (i.e., a virtual extension). Here are shots of the stock 365mm set-up and my 320mm Momo mounted on a 1.25" OGRacing extension for comparison. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
