    A little silicone paste will not only protect the surface from rust, it will also reduce the excessive heat created during hard braking.

    Actually, I think this is the appropriate thread to mention this problem my car is having. When I'm on the road and the engine is on, it keeps burning gas. It's gotten to the point where I have to fill it 2-3 times per week!

    I don't know what to do, really. I'm going to take it in for a service soon, maybe they can find the problem. I think it has something to do with that tube in the back where hot air blows out of the car when it's on. I suspect the gasoline is somehow evaporating and getting pushed out that hole.

    Luckily Ferraris have an automatic device that stops the engine when the tanks are empty, to prevent you from driving with no fuel which could seriously harm the engine and lead to $20000 repair bills.

    I can't find the fill location recommended for the Blinker Fluid. I think I am a little low since the windows are moving slower all the time. Does it go in the blinker itself, or is there a reservoir for it? Back to the original question. Maybe someone could come up with a direct injection brake rotor oiler, like the 2 cycle boat motor oil injection system. It seems like an awful waste to make the laborers work around all the wheels every time the car is washed to oil the rotors properly.

    BTW when I first read the oil the rotors post I thought it was serious. I thought "Wow, that would make most brakes useless, but I guess high performance cars are different." I hope he is not wrapped around a tree with shiny rotors....

    Don't you think that you are all being kinda hard on the guy? WD 40 or 50W oil on the rotors??? Everyone here knows it is best to use synthetic 5w30 on the rotors!!! Com'on now!

    Now that's debatable. I swear by Redline 20w50 cuz it's thickerer but straight 60weight when on the track....

    It's the stuff that keeps the clicking noise up to spec.

    I usually change it when I'm changing my exhaust air freshener - just part of the normal maintenance routine.

    If you want to save a couple of bucks, just mix baking soda with each tank of gas...it will get rid of the smell almost immediately...

    Otherwise just jam 15-20 of those paper christmas tree freshners into your intake. Then remove the airfilter - its too restricting if used in combination with the freshner.

    These things will add 40-50 hp too...

    The only proper way to prepare/wash a Ferrari for Concours is to completely replace ALL parts of your car, except of course for the chassis plate, with new, clean, unsued parts purchased directly from Ferrari. If you'd done it properly you wouldn't have this problem.

    after doing all the other stuff mentioned in this thread you might as well remember to change the air in the tires to fresh and newer air for a better ride! it also saves the life of the tires.

    If you use helium in your tires like I do, it handles much better and decreases th "unsprung" weight of the car!

    Atcually, I was in Autozone today and noticed that the blinker fluid was on sale. It is in the back, right next to the radiator caps for the old 911 Porsches.

    Seriously, now, the rust is 100% normal for STEEL rotors. If you don't like it then get the rotors cadmium plated (we do this in the VW scene). I would recommend against paint or powder coating as they can't take the heat -- ceramic coating would be best. Some grooving on the rotor face is natural and okay. You just don't want them to get really pronounced and sharp.

    If coating the rotors you don't coat the wheel mounting surface nor the brake face surface.

    Apparently the starter of this thread didn't think my sarcastic suggestion to oil the rotors was funny. I sincerely apologize for using my authority as a mod to spread such dangerous misinformation..........








    ........ Now if I could just stop freaking laughing :D :D Apparently he called his dealer to ask about oiling the rotors!!!! BWAHAHAHAHA I would have loved to have heard that conversation. No word yet if they told him the blinker fluid thing wasn't real.
