Hi as you are all no doubt aware, I am not a regular poster but do watch the site with interest as i own a 348 Competizione. There seems to have been quite a fall recently in 355 prices, and as i am still considering buying one, i just wondered what fellow scuderia'ites' think about the current market. I would ideally love to keep the 348 and buy a 355 as well but I'm not rockafella! Any thoughts would be welcome Thanks Anto
well, I keep an eye out on the LHD prices, as I own a left hooker spider. The cars seem good value at the moment. I'm just wondering how low can they go? Mid 30's ? Once you're into that sort of area, then you're comparing RHD 348's and even mint 328's etc. Not too sure about RHD, but with the 430's out, the 360's will drop and as a matter of course, so will the 355. Again, all down to supply and demand. You would get a better deal when the weathers not too good, early winter etc. Rob
Your car is undoubtedly worth a fair bit, being quite rare. Will you have to plan ahead quite far, is it might be a while before the right specialist buyer comes along? ... or am I wrong? In terms of 355s, you could probably get a LHD high miler for 35K... but if you want a really good RHD one its still around the 50K+ mark. Getting a cheaper one will probably just balance out later in terms of cost of maintainence etc, etc into the future. IMO
If you want a good value car, get LHD. Colour also seems to make a difference- a non-red car seems to stick. The market for 355s seems quite dead IMO- mine had been on the market since Jan and I've had little interest, even considering it is a late car for what I reckon is a good price. Maybe it is because it is not red. I've given up now, and am happy to have it back home! Low £50s will get you a very good RHD car, and high £30s will get you a very good low miles LHD car. They seem cheap to me at these levels. There are quite a few about at dealers at silly prices, i.e. over £60k. A bit more will buy you a 360...
That sounds about right for a Berlinetta... definately the CHEAPEST variant by far! all those buttress problems, I dont know.
I know, I know... with the spiders you only get valves, cats, manifolds (errrr.. what else have I missed off your list Ade ) Leave the GTB's for us purists, you 10mph down the Kings Rd merchants can have your spiders
thats one of the reasons I sold mine- just got fed up of having the rear quarter painted every 18months or sooner ata huge cost because of paint comming off and rusting.
it may sound a very selfish point of view but I hope that 355's do come down a bit in price...... sorry to the current 355 owners, but I've always wanted a GTB F1 in red or silver and just can't justify splashing the cash at the moment.....

As do F1 trannies (not related to TH). My buttresses have gone for what I believe is the first time (at 6yrs old). And I think this may be due to a bit of unforeseen storage outside (together with some foreseen), plus lots of proper use. They have definitely gone for the first time in my 30mth tenure. I believe that with a decent repair they shouldn't go again for at least as long. And in theory longer. Time will tell. 800 quid or so all in. Will report back on quality this weekend. Granted, I wouldn't expect it of a BMW/Audi/Nissan. But then I won't be expecting to die of sheer boredom in the 355 either. I'm doubtful that GTBs/GTSs in the 50ks will be common in the near future (though the very, very best will inevitably hold fast). But mid to late 40s has to be sustainable in the near future. There's a lot of bunching of the earlier models now. I suspect there'll be a big spread between the desirable cars and the not so (for whatever reason - history, colour, condition etc) in future in much the same way as is happening with 308s, 328s, 348s etc. Though there were less "changes" throughout the life of the 355 I guess, which should limit price factors in this respect. BUT there aren't that many (good) 355s around. The lucky punter will get a good car at a very good deal (two good GTBs sold for 35k and 37k recently, but I believe to the trade - and getting hold of these privately is notoriously difficult), but most will be paying between 45k and 55k for a very good car (which, incidentally, is roughly what they were paying a year ago). For those waiting, they are great cars and worth the wait. But sometimes life is too short and it's simply worth going for it. In overall terms you'll lose not much and have everything to gain.
GRRR! In fairness to the car, this is first major prob in 5 yrs so i've got away lightly compared to some. Murph, i could've sworn you had a Spider too. Did you before the GTB?
The last time I had enough hair for a Spider I was 17 and potless. Right era though I have a Caterham, but that's definitely a hairy arse car rather than other coiffeur connotations. PS Have you found a workaround for yours yet, or is it still pricey? I know a certain place we both know and love seems to have workarounds for other theoretically pricey problems...
Ive actually decided that considering I have a SPIDER, I might as well grow the hair that I have left into something more suitable for a poseur such as myself with a SPIDER deserves. I dont know, perhaps a large quiff type arrangement. Whatever gets attention, you know. Mark my words, on the next rideout, my hair will be ridiculous.

Under that buttress joint is a one inch depth where the panels join that has no primer on it. These are red raw with rust. ferrari use a flexible seal over this joint and its this that cracks as a result of corrosion from underneath. No repair will last and £800 is very very cheap. Most quality shops charge about £2k and more for this work. about 70% of cars were repaired under warranty but ferrai anly allowed for a 2 inch strip to be repaired over the join.The problem was that later you can see the repair. the only correct way is to sandblast the join as deep as possible and spray rear panels and clearcoat the roof and rear 1/4 panels and spary dynatrol underneath this join.
