I have yet to get my letter from the IMS about the tickets. But the way it sounds the IMS has really ****ed up on this deal. Since a lot of scalpers have accounts the way they have it set up the scalper gets the refund not the actual user of the ticket. IMS should require everyone to return the ticket stub for the refund and then send the stub back with the check.

Also i think that the states shold keep a registry of scalpers that way scalpers cannot get refunds on events that end up like the USGP after all they are a business and should be prepaired to take a loss on an event not profit off of it twice.

a "business" is never a term that I have used to describe scalpers. Guess why they are called that

What about the heads-up folks that ran around grabbing up hundeds of stubs lying around on the ground out there after the race. They should do pretty good with their "refund" shouldn't they?

Tough situation to regulate I guess...

The way the season looks it might turn out that the USGP was Michael Schumacher's last victory in F1 at all. So isn't witnessing that historic event worth at least a hundred bucks?

Just went out to the mailbox and found a letter from IMS addressed to "Dear IMS Account Holder" thanking us for supporting the USGP and IMS. It goes on to say that "As an IMS Account Holder, you do not need to do anything to receive your race day ticket refund. You will receive an automatic tacket refund from Michelin. Here are the steps of the Michelin F1 Ticket Refund process:

    1. IMS Account Holders SHOULD NOT complete a Stubbed Ticket Claim Form during the stubbed ticket refund period, which begins August 8 and concludes August 29.

    2. In order to receive a full refund for the race day tickets purchased in your account, you should ensure that anyone to whom you gave a ticket from your account does not submit the ticket stub to IMS for a refund. Ticket refund claims on qualified ticket stubs will be honored first. You will not be reimbursed for any ticket stub that is submitted for a refund by another individual.

    3. During the perios of August 29 - September 18, IMS will reconcile the Stubbed Ticket Claim Forms with IMS Account Holder information.

    4. Beginning September 19, each IMS Account Holder will be automotically refunded for any race day tickets they purchased and not already submitted to IMS for a ticket stub refund.

    5. As you know, Michelin has offered to purchase 20,000 tickets to the 2006 USGP at Indianapolis. If the USGP is included on the 2006 Formula One schedule, these tickets will be made available to fans who purchased tickets for this year's race. Details of the 2006 Michelin ticket distribution are being coordinated with IMS. Specifics will be announced after the Formuala One calendar for 2006 has been released by the FIA.

IMS has created a special toll-free number for all questions about the ticket refund process. The number is 1.877.950.USGP. (8747)

just a suggestion, assuming there's another GP there - deal directly with the speedway for ticket purchasing - it's the easiest and as far as we are concerned the only way to do business - you don't pay any surcharges on tickets from them - we've had an account for several years and as a result of the account we don't have to do anything to get our refund (it's done automatically) and our son is able to keep his ticket which was autographed by Jackie Stewart when we ran into him in the museum

I did buy my ticket directly from the speedway! However, I apparantly did not set up an account, so I wont be reimbursed automatically. That is my understanding...

You might give them a call. My memory isn't all it should be but I seem to recall that back when we first decided to order directly from the speedway, we couldn't even place an order until we set up an account first. You may actually have one after all. Just a thought. Good luck.

Ernesto, if you bought your ticket directly through the speedway, you do not need to send in a ticket stub, you should be receiving a letter from the IMS and Michelin--your refund is automatic. The hold up is for the people that bought tickets through auxillary outlets and the Speedway has to reconcile those tickets with what they sent out to distributors. As a matter of fact if you bought your ticket through IMS and you send in a stub you MUCK the process up--PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT!!!!!. I have talked to the speedway and this is what they told me. In addition Michelin is handling the refunds so it will take a while to get your bucks back. My understanding is that Michelin is refunding the full face value of the RACE DAY ticket.
FYI. I sent in my ticket renewal form with in the first week following the debacle in 2005, for two reasons;A) I wanted those seats if there was a race in 06 and B) I wanted to see if any preliminary info came down the tube for those that had sent in renewals. TO DATE; I have received nothing from the speedway, I have received no charge on my credit card, and when I queried the folks at IMS I received no information concerning the issuance of tickets or the possibility of a race in 06 By this time last year I had confirmation of my tickets and I had been charged for them. I suggest this does not look good for the USGP. Like Carol, I have also see a couple of race date compilations that show the Canadian GP and no USGP. So it is up in the air, totally.

Mine too, along with a 2006 SPECIAL reserved seat ticket order form to get two $85 free seats (what the???) if I order two paid seats. Now, why would I want two seats in a diff stand than where I normally sit? I guess this would be good for someone who normally sits in the $85 seats...hmmm, what to do?

Full value of the (12) tickets on my account. Nice to see that they would provide information on those who turned in any of their ticket stubs, if they had so you know who not to refund money to. I'd been worried that someone might send in their stub, so I'd have 12 people wanting 11 tickets worth of refund money.

As for the 20,000 free tickets that we hadn't gotten much info on (to my knowledge), renewing ticket holders each get 2 $85 tickets. Not 2 of your tickets for free, but 2 additional tickets. So ebay will be FULL of pairs of tickets in unknown locations! :|

    Check out this story...

Before the refunds I got an email from the person who bought my friends tickets on ebay. He basically knew there would be refunds, but didn't know so much about the process. I had read here what to do, so told him he needed to send his stubs to IMS/Michelin before the deadline or the season ticket holder (my friend) would get the refund. A week or two ago I get an email telling me he didn't send in the stubs, but told me I could send him the refunds directly. As nice as I could I basically told him it was his fault he didn't send them in, I told him the process, and I wasn't sure if my friend with the season tickets got the refund or not, but I assume he did. Today I get a nasty email back saying I better pay him the refund or he will bad mouth me on my site (FerrariChat.com) and report me to ebay. :D I don't think he has any rights, but I thought I would run it by everyone here. To be polite I did ask my friend today if he was at all interested in giving the refund to this guy. If he brings up any other legal nonsense, then I guess it helps my friend is an ass kicking Dallas lawyer (not my friend Greg, but John). :)

the ass kicking sounds apropos. stupidity is it's own reward. sounds like you use the term "friend" rather loosely.

No, he really is a friend, fellow lawyer of one my really good friends Greg. I only see John a few times a year though, Indy is one of the big trips we do together. I went by his office on Friday and thought it was pretty funny.
