    Edwin,

You are right there really is no such thing as a stupid question in our quest for knowledge ... but you have just invested a massive amount of dollars in to a vehicle. Surely it is wise to gain some basic knowledge of automobiles and their systems BEFORE spending the big bucks ... if not for any other reason than to be able to operate it safely, etc.

A 360 is a powerful car and could get you in to serious trouble very quickly (I imagine).

It is unusual for somebody to purchase a Ferrari without having a fair degree of car experience ... if nothing other than watching Dad (or Mum) as your car interest grows.

I personally suggest that you STOP cleaning it and instead study the engineering and then you will see that it IS all about the driving. It is actually contradictory and undoubtably pissed Enzo Ferrari off that this obsessive cleaning of his cars started ... he set out to make fast and first and foremost DRIVERS cars ... not poser cars.

I would suggest you ask your dealer if they promote or support any advanced driving courses and get involved in the driving side. This is really the best way to get to know your car and before long you will appreciate and know more than 75% of the board members ... and be able to talk about brake fade, which fluid is best, early thottle application ... trail braking ,etc.

    Best
    Pete

As long as we are doing tech tips, here is one I found. My Mondial's acceleration time was greatly increased by the free-fall-off-the 10 story parking garage maneuver.
    Braking was also dramatically improved.

thanks pete, i agree with what you say.

i am going to a 4 day driving school starting monday. i have already put 600 miles on my car in one week.

as far as the rusting rotors go, i thought i may have used too aggressive a wheel cleaner or just done something wrong......i was just asking, plain and simple.

i plan to drive the hell out of my car, but keep it looking awesome too.

the only thing i knew about ferraris was that i wanted one since since i was a teenager.

i spend most of my time making money, so i am not a car expert. i buy lots of cool toys i usually don't know beans about, and that is part of the fun to me. i went and bought a 42 foot yacht 10 years ago, and i had never even operated a twin screw boat-1 year later i was taking my buddies 40 nautical miles offshore and spearfishing under oil rigs for the weekends. i went and bought a highly modified jeep wrangler and went rockcrawling all over the country. sure, at first, i didn't know what i was doing, so i got an expert in utah to teach me (put me in all kinds of hairy situations) for 8 days. after that, i was doing the hardest trails that new mexico and utah had to offer.

maybe i don't fit the mold, but this is the way i do it and i like it, even if it means looking like a dumbass as i plunge into a new field.

so, i appreciate your advice. right now, i am a newbie, but i plan to be learning fast. can't wait for next week.

I'm glad to see you stuck around. This really is the best source of Ferrari related info on the web.
Soon you will know who to take serious and who's just joking with you. These guys like to have fun and they aren't stuck up at all. Many grown up Ferrari owners act like kids here; not that there's anything wrong with that.:)

Also glad you stuck around, Edwin. You'll find this board to offer many things, not the least of which is amusement (sometimes at someone's expense- but, hey, you just paid your dues) and some serious information, as well as friendship. Welcome.

Gosh... and you guys consider yourself experts?? Five pages on this thread and not ONE mention of the most critical mechanical element of your car... the exhaust bearings!!

Sorry... just had to join in on the fun! ;)

Congrats on the new car, Edwin360. I'm still a few years away from my first Ferrari. Been lusting since age 13 (now 41). Enjoy!

Edwin, if it makes you feel any better, in the army we used to do the same thing to all the new operators when they brought their vehicles to the motor pool for service. Send them to the tool room for a left-handed crescent wrench, make them rotate the air in the tires ("You still have the winter air in the tires, you have to replace it with summer air or the pressures will be WAY too high when the winter air gets hot")

    It's universal.

I knew I loved this forum. I live on a steep hill and never thought to lubricate the rotors. I'm going right out and check that blinker fluid, top up the kinibly pin reservoir, grease the muffler bearings, and change the fluid in the battery.
    I'll be right back!

    Sorry to hijack here....

I usually wash my wheels and tires with a separate bucket and cloth than the one I wash the body with.

A good trick is to add some metalworking coolant (if you can find some) to the soap/water mix. Its an additive gel that inhibits rust when mixed with water, and dries away with and leaves no film or residue (usually).
