    That was the front line NATO & USAF fighter in the late 50s designed by the same man who did the SR-71. I think its good for Mach 2 :)

    F-104's are neat airplanes. The leading edge of the wing is sharp enough to cut you. They are a little unforgiving to fly though.

    The F-104 was designed solely as an interceptor. It is very fast, holding several speed records until the SR-71/YF-12A came along. Early in it's life it had a reputation for killing pilots in low altitude incidents (engine failure on take-off or landing) since the pilot ejects down instead of up due to the T-tail. If they were too close to the ground the ejection seat would power the pilot straight into the ground. Its nickname was "missle with a man in it". Always thought it would be a fun plane to have as personal transport. Not practical but fun.
