Have you tried the Permatex? Yes I know it doesn't have the button. Yes I have seen the mirror, I only own a 348, DUH. Thats why I said "feel the burn". LOL. However if the adhesive from the dealer is only $5 then that isn't so bad.
I knocked my mirror off by accident...I did try the Permatex...followed the instructions and would not work...IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!! Would not hold...Tryed Permatex again...again...would not hold...so I went with something that I always go with....Superglue....Worked perfect....2000 miles later its still perfect....just dab some superglue on the back of that plate and stick back in the exact spot it came off...trust me..i speak from experience..
Thats weird. I have used the Permatex at least half a dozen times on various cars and it works just fine. The only time I had a problem with it was when I used too much, and I didn't hold the mirror in place long enough. I covered the whole thing with the adhesive instead of the ONE drop. But other than the one time, I works as advertised for me. The last time was about a year ago. The mirror on my truck fell off. Though it does have the button. I used it just as I explained and the mirror is still in place.
Yeah, I tried to follow the Permatex instructions but I probably botched it up...twice...but the Superglue was idiotproof...Even I could do it!
My mirror has fallen off a couple of times. You can get the double sticky pad from the dealer but make sure it has the Ferrari logo on the peel-off paper. One dealer sold an exact copy of the factor part but it didn't hold as well. The correct factory part has lasted 4-5 years. It is kinda funny when you're sitting at a red light and the mirror just falls off. By the way, on my TR, I mounted the mirror a little off center and then made a mount for the Valentine 1 and now the sun visors flip forward correctly. Jeff Pintler 89 348tb, 86TR
yes permatex works great, but not on the 348 mirror , its a different setup . its hi tack double face tape on plastic surface. like i said , adhesive 100% silicone. i used black .
Hi gang! I just wanted to follow up to say that I followed the advice on this thread by scraping off the old stuff, buying the glue kit from Walmart, glued it back on and voila, it's back on now. Thanks everyone! I can now see behind me again! J
If it falls off again. . . . Go to the nearest Porsche dealer for two-sided sticky tape. Worked like a charm when the mirror fell off of my old 83 Mondial.
Yup! I tried everything on my Lotus and nothing stayed on until on a whim I used black silicone gasket goo I had lying around. It stuck on immediately; no need to tape it (Lotus mirrors are really light which no doubt helped) and now 2 years and several hard knocks later it's still attached. Ken
