Lets see around 500 million people in the US. At 2% of the population, where talking about 10 million people. For the other 490 million...... more than likely impossible to obtain. I see you are looking at word for word in my comments. End of day 98% of the population will not attain that score of 800 and over. DOnt know about you Uro, but 98% is pretty close. I didnt know I was being quized to be 100%, will you accept 98% as a final answer?
Less then 2% have above an 800 FICO score. If you truly want to know your credit score without dinging it...Go to Fair Issaics website (FICO = Fair Issaics)....its www.myfico.com I know more about the insides of our credit scoring system then any lender, bank, financial analyst yada yada I have ever met...I have documents upon documents of how to get ANYTHING removed (except Bankruptcys - you have to work hard to get those off)... Despite what anyone tells you, you can REMOVE ANY NEGATIVE INFORMATION on your credit report...whether justified or not...its the stuff CRA's dont want you to hear but it is true....I don't charge for this info, and I am not in the credit repair business, but I have helped tons of friends clean up their reports so that they could mortgage loans...you can even remove CREDIT INQUIRYS off your report, the easiest being internet based inquiries... That www.myfico.com is the best and only site you should pull your report from. DO NOT USE Equifax's, Experians, or Transunions score cards, they do not use the same number generators as Fair Issaics and will give you a higher score then you really have (especially Transunions...i believe there score range goes up to 900) Fair Issaics is the one that banks and lenders are going to go by thats what you want...The will pull whats called a TRI-MERGE which is an Equifax, Experian and Transunion report and use Fair Issaics scoring model to determine a score...If any of you all have any marks on your report...PM me and will try to advise you the best way to remove it...This is the type of info that either takes years of research or people will charge you for. A lot of people on this site have helped me out so hopefully I can pay it forward... -Aaron
Another free way to guessimate your credit score using FICO model... www.bankrate.com under calculators, click on VIEW MORE CALCULATORS... then under HOME EQUITY CALCULATORS click SEE YOUR FICO SCORE that will load up the FICO Estimator Try it! Very Cool..
So, if you contact the credit agency and request your own copy does that constitute an inquiry and lower your score?
Good idea, NOT!!! The better your score, the more sensative the mapping becomes. If you have a poor score there is little that you can do to make it worse. If you have a good score, 800+, anything you do will cause it to lower. The system is looking for signs that you are entering into more debt or changing your spending habits. Pay of your debt and don't even think about looking for more credit, and your score will raise. Do not get suckered into this 'you have to have more debt to have better credit' BS, that is just what it is. WHEN YOU HAVE NO DEBT EVERY ONE WANTS TO LOAN YOU MONEY... I book loans all day long and more debt is never a good thing.
No, that is considered a SOFT INQUIRY and does not affect your score. Only a HARD INQUIRY which is when you seek credit such as applying for a CREDIT CARD, or CELLPHONE, or setting up utilities will affect your score.
but you can get the same info from that myfico website as if you contacted the CRA....but myfico will give you the score too...I prefer their site over an way of getting my report because i dont have to wait for them to mail it to me (its instant) and I love to analyze the score. But a lot of states have laws whereby you can get 1 or 2 free credit reports (regardless of whether you have applied for anything) a year for free. ALL STATES ALLOW YOU TO GET A FREE COPY OF YOUR REPORT IF YOU HAVE BEEN TURNED DOWN FOR ANYTHING.
Except for the impact a credit score does to your INSURANCE RATES, if you never plan on taking a loan does the score even matter? Are there other areas, like insurance rating, that it affects secretly?
Don't worry, see above. Anything over 720 is considered golden to most every lender. BTW: I am on the board of directors of a large mortgage company. Actually it is one of our sub corps. You are just fine.
I agree....720 or 725 seems to be the mark where above that it doesnt matter....its just for bragging rights..
500 Million? You must be counting all those undocumented illegal's. Even including all our Territories I don't think we have broken 300 Million yet.
You are correct... the latest census reports have the US population just short of 300 million, I recall that the 2000 census reported 280 million people. It's funny to see how skewed peoples idea of population can be, like when people are asked about how many people are in this world and they say...... "umm 50 million???"
I doubt it. I tried like crazy to keep my score over 800. Would even keep paying off my credit card online in between billing cycles just to keep balances down. MyFico shows my balance at 4% of my limit ( MyFico shows national average is 40%) and I still dropped to 780. Am giving up as what has been said here is very true about anything over the Mid 700' means nothing. not sure why it was so important to attain that high score as I never plan on borrowing, Guess it was just because I was so irresponsible about money in my younger days and felt a high score made me a more responsible adult
300 million 400 million, at 2% its 6 million people whatever. Point is a score of 800 and over is very uncommon. The average in the US and Canada is 640 and greater where the majority of the popoluation will be.
An interesting fact... Average scores are greater in the Northest then the Southeast. Also, I highly highly doubt that 2% of residents have over an 800. I would peg it at less then 1%....like maybe a .2%....I would guess that about 1 out of every 500 people have over an 800.
So if I have a *friend* that is working to improve his credit score, how long does it take to see a positive trend?
Depends on how they are trying to improve it and what techniques they are using...One of friends, told him what to do and his score went up 137 points in 2 months...If you just try to replace old info with new, better info it will normally take years.
