www.nasatx.com Yes it may be hot, but everything else about this weekend will be awesome. Racing groups for the racers & track groups for the street cars. TWS 2.9 configuration, the best! None of this 1.8 that FoH does. At least Mark McKenzie and I will be racing our 355 Challenge cars vs. the Vettes, American Iron, and Lotus 7's of the World. Other race groups will include the open wheel racers, spec miatas, and spec RX7's (Ron Rippe, Greg Scott, Donato Forte...) Driver Education groups for those new to the track. Learn how to drive your car safely quick. Always very social, group I hang out with usually does Outback Friday night and Italian Saturday night. If you are single, no better place to be than a college town. If you are married and just like to look, no better place to be than a college town. Who all is going?
Rob, Did you get your car sorted out? Dave Moore helped me extract my broken ball joint, and I should be ready to go. I'll be there and race the 355Challenge. I might bring another car to lap with also. We need to get some other Texas Challenge cars out there. Tom, Wes, Dana...... NASA really is a great group, and while it will be HOT, TWS 2.9 should be great. I've made reservations at Manor house, but I know they sometimes fill up, so anyone thinking of going would do well to get a hotel. See you there. Mark McKenzie
If there are a handful of Challenge cars going to be there, please let us know! I'd probably make the drive down for the day to see that.
Hmmm .... I have been looking for a reason to make it to TWS this year in the 911. What is the format for the DE? How many sessions and how long? They running CW or CCW? I did a DE there 2 years ago when I was just getting started. We ran it one day in each direction. Fun, but it pissed me off because I never got to learn the track in either direction. Do they allow guests in the car for solo DE drivers? Can FarmerDave can ride with me?
No, I never have, I usually pack 4 bags with ice and put in my pockets and then on my chest. Usually melted and warm 20 minutes in though. James Paterson (Norwoods) met me at MSR with the SD2 Saturday. First session the problem hit at lap 3, went away for 7 laps and then came back. Computer was throwing several codes, none that he thought could be fixed there. However, just for fun we put two new igniters in and then I ran 2 more sessions without a single problem. Tied my best lap on old rubber and 110 degree pavement. Still going to get new O2's and a new Cam sensor to take care of those error codes. Used Grand Am racing rubber coming this week, still not like new, but I like the $75 cost. I'm looking forward to the 2.9 under racing conditions, I've only done a DE there and 6 sessions all weekend I had maybe 4 clear laps.
Just two right now, but would be four with Wes and Dana/David. Also would be good to get several street Ferraris for the DE.
NASA does about 4 race groups and 2 DE's. There will probably be 6 20-25 minute DE sessions per group. That may be all anyone can handle in the heat. CCW. Think guests are allowed, I know the organizers well, so even if they say no I can get them to say yes.
More for weekend fun, but the last NASA event at MSR Randy took it through tech to race. Not sure if he actually raced or not.
I'm out. Karen is having her wisdom teeth out that Friday. Heading to the track that weekend would be a bad move politically.
Rob, I definitely will not make it with the A4 as i am still having some turbo problems. I have found a couple of solutions and am going to be at Hallett for the next NASA event. Also the MSR and TMS events. Good luck all and keep the shiny side up.
I've decided not to do the NASA Hallett event in favor of the FCA Jazz Tour. We'll be passing by within 50 miles though.
How about you buy them as rentals or parts cars. Heck, you can't hardly buy engines for what I'm selling the entire car. Rear shock covers included. Payment plans accepted for your college budget.
I actually had a guy call and offer me some scheme to buy both your cars. Never heard back from him... Gotta love the racecar biz, huh?
I'll be driving over Friday night, trying to make it into the track before they lock the gates. Evidently NASA has sold all the garage space, so it seems like there should be a good turnout. Rob, did you get your error codes sorted out? See you there. Mark
Well, it was throwing errors for one bank cam sensor and the O2's. So I've gotten those new parts. However, the part James replaced to get it working at MSR was something called the ignition packs or module? I don't think it is a computer, but controls the spark one way or another. No error codes, but he put used ones in and the car ran great for the next two sessions. I'm taking the cam sensor and O2's in case the ECU starts shutting me down again. Hope everything works! Used Grand Am tires have come in, so I just need to change the oil and bleed the brakes. Will be in College Station about 6-7 Friday. Looking forward to it, hopefully the AI guys aren't bumping too much!
Give me the details again... I might be ale to make it...I really want to see what my 348 will do against all those "bad-boy" 355's. I'll even bring the short guy with me, so he can fix what you guys break.
