I enjoyed the day at Concorso Italiano today. It was my first time at the Concorso and the collection of cars was simply amazing. I had my 550 in the exhibit area with the 300 plus other F-cars and I met many fellow f-chatters and enthusiasts.

However, during the event when I was at lunch, some idiot keyed my car all the way down the side (front panel, door and rear panel.) It was obviously intentional and I have reason to believe it was a fellow F-chatter.

I spoke with Concorso representatives who said they had no other cars vandalized at the show this year and claim to have never had any cars vandalized in the history of the Concorso. My car was parked in the middle of 12 other Maranellos (none of which were keyed).

I knew nobody personally at this event and, unfortunately suspect that a fellow Fchatter was responsible. I have made many great friends on Fchat, however, I have also had my share of battles in the P&R section and my car is well known to all (many pictures, name on the car, etc), but never in my wildest dreams would have thought anyone would stoop so low as to take it outside of the P&R room, let alone, maliciously damage a Ferrari. After all - when you cut through it all - most of us here are Ferrari enthusiasts and owners (save for a few trolls in the P&R section) and the love of Ferrari should ultimately bond us all.

For me it is not a big deal - as I am fully insured with an easy deductible. It will easily be fixed.

However, I am disgusted when I think about what a cowardly act that some idiot perpetrated. This idiot should be ashamed of his actions and one day likely will.

I think that there was more than one person involved and perhaps a few more people have been told and I hope that someone with integrity will PM me or another fchatter with some information. I have a lead on who it was and am looking for some confirmation. Hopefully someone will do the right thing and provide some information.

Well, you are one of them.

But the idea of someone damaging a car just b/c of a verbal dispute is disgusting. If your suspicion is right, the guy needs treatment .. .. first with fists and after this from a psychiatrist. Although you are one of the trolls that make P&R unbearable I sincerely hope that the culprit gets caught.

That does suck. One doesn't expect such ramifications to result from participation on a chat board. Pretty scary if you think about it. I was always under the impression that all was fair in love, war and P&R, but this is going way, way too far! Good luck finding who did it. I'm extremely surprised by this.

Dude that is just not right at all! That is a pure low class move. Especially at an event like concorso. On the street it wouldn't be a surprise, not that it would be okay, but come on ........... at concorso? VERY cheap move.

    Mike,

Unlike the others speaking here I have no idea who you are or what you've said to "possibly" provoc such an abhorrent act but this is a disgusting act. It may not have happened directly at Concorso before this but it's also not the 1st time its happened to people attending the events in Monterey.

A lot of years ago we had a 1st place concours winning Maserati keyl aced in the parking lot with a security guard present at the organizers hotel. (Concorso was originated by the Maserati club) That was obviously done by someone the guard had no reason to be concerned about. One of "us".

Four years ago at a track and concours event on the east coast 4 or 5 cars got key laced while they were in a tent which was once again guarded. I reached the same conclusion as to who did it.

Some people get very worked up at these shows about winning and now it would seem we can add chat rooms to the list.

This is why I've stopped judging and rarely enter my cars for judging.

    How pathetic some people are.

I go to track events instead. That's where on some unfortunate days a key lace job can seem like a nice day.

    Mike,

Sorry to hear about the car. Sunny made it spotless, it will be that way again.

If you have a suspicion as to who would key your car, then out him. Give him the chance to deny your accusation, or, fess up.

I don't think I've agreed with much of anything you've posted in P&R, but I'd never stoop to damaging your car as retribution.

I just find it hard to believe that someone would key your car over internet prattle.

Again, sorry to hear of the mishap, hopefully your paint shop will put you right.

That would probably be a bad idea, which is why he didn't do it in the first post.

Jealousy can do strange things to people. So can resentment and animosity. But destroying property is not right, whether at a car show or on the street.

A coward that would do this would never fess up anyway.

Yep, but you shouldhave the courage of your convictions. If you're going to make an accusation, make it, don't veil it in, maybe, might have, etc.

    Suspect someone?

Accuse him, or leave it out of the post altogether.

    Just my 2 cents.

Sorry to hear about the car. Definately the act of a cowardly individual. Someone who is angered enough with you to do something like that should also have the guts to confront you directly, not hide behind an immature act of vandalism on an inanimate object.

As for the suggestions of outting the suspect, I think that is a very bad idea. You've given enough information that anyone who would know about what happened can give you confirmation. An unsubstantiated allegation directly against a fellow F-Chatter wouldn't do any good. In fact, if the suspect was actually guilty but not proven to be, they would likely use a thread like that to do as much harm to your reputation as possible.

Wait and see what happens. Like you said, maybe he was foolish enough to tell someone what he did and they will have an attack of concience and pass that information along to you.

Offer a reward, it works, especially if more than one person was involved/there. I had a 70' BOSS 302 get keyed at Starbucks, I offered a reward and one of the punks friends called me, he was there and saw him do it. Punks will take money over a "friend" anyday in my experience.

    Mike,

This is simply unbelievable! Dave called me yesterday to tell me what happened and I was shocked! Still, like the others have said, you seem to be handling the situation with class. Hopefully justice will done done though. Like John Travolta's character said in Pulp Fiction, "It would almost be worth him doing it if I could catch him in the act."

    Mike,

Sorry to hear that about your car. I totally agree with you - even though we might have differences on the board, but when we get down to brass tacks - all of us here are Ferrari enthusiasts - and keying any car is wrong - a Ferrari is TOTALLY WRONG.
