    Synchro,

I was there in those days but in 1987 it was Lambo, Maserati and Ferrari. The English, German and other marques came much later. I know what you mean though, it was an intimate event and setting. Were you there when the lawn sprinklers came on during dinner and doused everyone's cars? That was truly hysterical. I haven't been out there since 2000 but is "The Quail" more like it was? Times change though. It was still a relatively small event when my car got damaged by someone trying to steal parts and when one of the Maserati owners had his 100 point Merak key laced in the club hotel garage it was still small as well. Bad stuff just happens, even in small events. I don't think I'd categorize this incident as some major change in the nature of this show. Maybe the difference was that we didn't make a huge issue of these events but then we didn't have the Internet. I do hope they get the bastard.

She says an F50....but maybe he doesn't know his Ferrari's...if it can be confirmed that 10 other cars were keyed in the parking lot, then this is strong evidence that what this person is saying is true...after all, how else would you know this? That info would have HAD to have come from the culprit one way or another...

...or it's a not so clever diversion planted to draw attention away from the true and only possible culprit, an F-Chat P&R poster.

What if he said 550 and she thought F50? Does anyone know if an F50 was keyed or damaged? How many were there?

Again, I don't know if this was BS or not but I thought it might be relevant so I posted it here.

actually, what really has me pissed is that she posted that and everyone was making fun of her like she was overreacting!! WTF? If one of those punks ever owns a nice car they're going to have the exact same reaction as we do - outrage.

Interesting. I've been following this thread for some time. While there is only a lead: that the individual was pissed off from Fchat, specifically P&R, there's also the wild card, someone no one knows nor suspects at all.

What are the chances that it is someone else? Not that great, but plausible.

What are the chances that someone here, signed onto that site and posed as someone's gf and told the story to push leads somewhere else? Clever.

I'd say start with getting a list of individuals who attended the event. Even if you cannot get spectators names, you can get registered entrants - and those can be matched up here. It might not lead anywhere, but it is a start.

Well, it was a first post, I think, so it's possible. However, it looks like it was posted on Saturday (or Sunday if the post timer is off) so how possible is it that this thread was started before? It could be after, I guess. Maybe someone can check the IP of the girl?

I believe that event was on Friday. If you look at the time of Mike550's first post about it, it was labeled 2:27am on 8/20...that would put it on the day of the 19th Fri...

dak - A couple of finer points.
1). There is a crime - not an alleged crime.
2). There is more than a theory on how it was committed. It was keyed.
3). Your statement that there was no real evidence on how it was committed is confusing. The evidence is the car and the key scrapes and paint shavings left behind. Did I find the actual key? No.

Let's say you find a dead body with bullet holes. There is a crime, even though the perpetrator is at large. There is more than a theory on how it was committed - the victim was shot. The evidence of the crime is a bullet riddled body. Your statement makes no sense - how can you call this an alleged crime with no evidence on how it was committed.

4). There are no hurdles to becoming an F-chat member (other than access to a computer) so why would anyone think that there could not be one or two people out of 21,000 plus members that could perpetrate a malicious act? Not that it has anything to do with anything, but a large number of posters do not have Ferraris and many are not interested in Ferraris and only post in Off Topic.

Now I will say, that I believe that this is one of the best forums on the internet and the very large majority of members are the best people you could ever meet. I know I have made many friends and meet even more great people on F-chat in the last year or two.

I trust that was a joke.

The last thing I want it to have a kangaroo court or have F-chat change because of this one incident.

I am insured and am going to have the car fixed. I will continue to go on F-chat drives, participate in this Forum and attend Concorso Italiano. I thank all of you for your feedback and private emails.

    Mike

Sherpa - thanks for this info. It was also PMd to me yesterday (which I appreciate as well).

For the record, I did file both a police report and an insurance report. At the time of the police report the Monterey police had no reports of other vandalism at Concorso. An officer was going to contact me again today or tomorrow with any updates. If it turns out more cars were keyed then this could be a good start for an investigation.

I cannot get ahold of Concorso Italiano representatives now - the number is out of commission.

    Mike:

This thread has been hijacked as a diatribe against the P&R Section with the full support of the Moderators. My later posts have been in response to that. You started the ball rolling by stating that you suspected an F-Chatter with whom you had a disagreement(s), but refused to name the individual(s) you suspect. (I posted in favor of that decision, btw.) This has created lots of traffic, wild speculation among the Community and calls for an end to the dreaded P&R Section from the "Nanny" types. Every true Ferrari enthusiast and even the unwashed worshippers of other brands are sickened by the desecration of your beautiful 550. I don't think that I would have been nearly as calm had it been me.

Well, I had no idea this kind of thing was going on at these shows. I always figured it was just a group of people getting together to show off how nice they could make their cars, and admire the work of others. It's not a great example of the human condition.

Maybe we are going to have to setup video cameras at the shows now. It doesn't sound like the guards are doing the job.

Continuing the hijack...... I would like to see the P&R Section left basically the way it is, open to all the users. The one little thing that I would like tweaked is to have the ability to ban users from just the P&R section. I don't think I need to start citing examples of otherwise good users who can't handle the P&R section. The ability to selectively ban would give the mods a very usefull tool for keeping things under control.

I want to thank everyone for their support - words, offers of assistance with the culprit :) and financial. This is a great community of enthusiasts.

The police are investigating and there are leads - I have also been given some "tips" by fellow chatters. It is inappropriate to name names at this point. I will post updates if and when it makes sense. If you do have more information please PM me. There is a $2,500 reward for information leading to positive ID.

This thread is causing a little tension and is detracting from the spirit of this board and I think it should be closed. My car was keyed and I have some leads - however, it was one car that got keyed. Most likely everyday a member's car is in an accident, gets a bad stone chip, gets vandalized or breaks down. To that person, it is just as upsetting as what happened to mine. The Concorso was a great event and this incident / thread has unitentionally hijacked the event and in some ways this Forum.

So here are some photos that capture the day for me.

    cheers everyone!

Figured three threads on this topic going at the same time just wasn't enough.

Mike: That sucks. Vandalism of any type is just beyond my comprehension. It's hard to imagine any adult choosing to resolve their issues with you by vandalizing your car. Instict tells me that this was probably the work of minors and not, as you suspect, some sort of attack by a scorned F-Chatter. Even so, I'm sure we'll never know who the culprit is. Still sucks.
