It seems to be a well kept secret, either that or it's coz they have yet to settle on a design as I am sure the big F wants it to be superior to the AMG versions. My only fear is that Panerai being so hot right now, it will be hard for F owners to get their hands on it w/o paying way above list prices. If you check with any Panerai retailer in the US, they are getting "blind shipments" meaning you don't get what you ask for, just what is available from the manufacturer.

I'm lucky, there is a Panerai factory store in town here (not a secondary retailer), I'll see if I can get some info out of them on the weekend.

With regards to the SLR watch, I'm guessing that Panerai is going to run much more open editions than just a handful of watches. I think my wife's GP was a run of something like 4000 pieces...

It's a real eye catcher I'll give u that. Have u seen the Opus V from Harry Winston yet? That for me is the dream watch with a very "dream-on" price as well. In the meantime, the Tag caliber 360 will be a good enough target to aim for.

That's what many hope but if Panerai is to price them high vis-a-vis AMG-Panerai, then the model will have to be a unique one off edition. Limited production models cannot command the premium which I think Ferrari would like in order to maintain the exclusivity. AMG also tied up with IWC which makes the watches at the lower 4-6K range. Prehaps the talk of Ferrari also tying up with Omega for the "cheaper" range may be true.

Also can u chk with your Panerai store why the heck are all their boxes so big and heavy? :)

    To match the watches?

Several months ago, Jimpo posted on this watch.

I have contacted Tag rep., and was told it will be out this fall. I already saw a knockoff this watch at NY street.

I personally like Monaco V4, and waiting to see this watch in person.

Opus by H. Winston looks good, but IMO it's not worth over $100K.

    R. Mille's watch looks good, but it's tourbillion watch while Monaco V4 isn't. They are just different class of watches.

Of course they are in a far different class. I was merely pointing out from where Tag's design was derived.

I'm not sure I'm following your logic Dave, the Tag has a very unique winding mechanism that has never been done before. A tourbillion is made by quite a few manufacturers. Are you referring to the outside shape of the watch? The outside shape of the new Tag looks remarkably similar to the original Monacos from the 60's.

The boxes are big and heavy to match their watches.

On the Ferrari watch, they didn't tell me much, no photos yet, but it will be out in December now, not 2006 as previously mentioned.

Developed by TAG Heuer and Mr. Philippe Dufour, probably the best independent master watchmaker alive.
This watch will be more in the range of $100k when (and if) it comes out. Unmatched innovations that the world of horology has not seen for many many decades. Make no mistake, this one cannot be compared to anything which is currently available on the market regardless of its price tag.

    Best regards,
    Spiros.
