    RE: owners forum:

    1. Why?

    2. not possible to verify real owners from poseurs. Anyone can get a VIN#

    3. Many would be owners have come on here looking for advice. I enjoy helping them where I can.

    4. Trolls are actually few and far between, we just notice them more than real enthusiasts. A little perspective here helps.

    My 2 cents

How about a title designation of:

    "Owner - Rossa Subscribed"

    "Owner - Silver Subscribed"

"Owner - Tight Ass" :D (not that there's anything wrong with that!) :D

I think there should be an owners only forum. I've recently noticed a few members with nearly a 1000 posts who are condescending clowns and they don't even own a Ferrari or any type of exotic. If you look at their posts neither one have ever added any helpful advice in the tech sections or model specific sections , areas which I feel are highly important to this board.

I'm not knocking non owners or future owners with legitimate questions.

I am knocking non owners and people who will pry never own an F car that spend all day posting their smart ass opinions.

Yeah...let's get elitist. How about only owners of 'real' Ferrari's worth more than $120,000 each or agreed upon gems and no "unpopular" Ferrari's. Should keep all the "rif-raff" at bay (and no muggles or half-bloods, either ; )

I agree with an Owner's Only section. There is too much trolling and drivel on the site. I've been coming to the site much, much less recently because of it. Non-owners can view, they simply can't post -- and this only for this particular "Owner's" section. Special cases like NNO and mechanics can post.

I would try it for 6 months and then re-evaluate usage and user's comments.

Or, better yet, make it easy for someone to not view posts from non-owners -- throughout the site. Kind of like a one-click "Owner's Only Posts" feature -- then one could add specific non-owners as desired.

What will only owners talk about in their special forum? Anything that doesn't already have a place somewhere else on Fchat? Also, keep in mind some of Fchat's most infamous/hated users are Ferrari owners :)

I really don't think owning a Ferrari or not has any direct relationship to trolls. Yea most trolls dont have Ferraris, but what about the great members here who dont? What about former owners?

If the owners only section ever opens I would figure it to be quiet, boring, and pretty much worthless.

I see where you are coming from, but I dont think exclusion is the answer. I would say that the non-owning idiot trolls make up a small percentage of the non owners on the website. I really think the best option is just to ignore the junk you dont like...with a website this big it would be nearly impossible to get rid of trolls and smart asses. There are jerks all over the world and just as many of them own Ferraris as those that dont...it just doesnt seem like a fair or effective way to get rid of trouble makers.

And again, what would owners post in their own forum that wouldnt have its place elsewhere on the website? What exactly would the purpose of an owners only forum be?

Dave, my time will come...Im pretty darn young buddy :)

right or a lot of other cars of genuine interest on this forum that offer great driving experiences. I guess I'm just amused at the elitist pretensions of so many whose cars are basically affordable, worth little more (or often less) than the new z06 new 997's etc and certainly have less performance.

One thing that always has stood out among the Ferrari people I have met is a little bit of warmth and outgoing spirit and a love of aesthetics, history and sharing a passion for the cars. Different from some other makes.

Hard to ignore stuff when it saturates a forum, people quote it so ignore doesn't work, but god forbid **** tits ****...etc appears??

We need a NON-OWNER's forum too, taylor made for the ones that work on Ferrari cars each and every day as their livelyhood, they know Ferrari's inside and out... yet, do not own one themselves.

Define the "idiots" accordingly that come on us, don't let the "idiots" define how we do things.

(Haven't we been down this road several times this year?)

Being an ower has nothing to too with repost or time wasted post, some of the most worthless posts posted on here come from members who own one and sometimes more than one ferrari and have more than 1,000 post ;)

I hate the thought of more "regulation" we have enough of that in this so called "free" country already, plus everyone loves a good troll bashing thread, like the NIK threads ;)

I say leave it open, and let our always on guard FCHAT POLICE handle all trolls.

    That's right, no 308's, Mondials, 4-headlight 330 2+2's, or automatic 412's!

The closest thing I remember to an owner's-only forum on Fchat was the short-lived Vintage Technical section....Yom Yang already had the definitive board for that.

I'm neutral on the ethics of the question, but have a couple of suggestions for implementation:

Owner's Forums would be a new Forum in General Forums, open to all for discussion, owner or not.

Break it down into Vintage, Classic, Modern, and Super Ferrari sub-forums. This has worked well in Model Specific Discussions.

Owners who choose to could have the model and personal photo avatar of their Ferrari (or one of them) below their name.

No need for s/n's, VIN's, or title checks...Poseur-owners will reveal themselves anyway.

Those aspiring to be owners of a particular model or a Ferrari in general could choose to be designated as such.

There really isn't much going on in the Silver Subscribed forum...can't comment on Rossa...do the subscribed forums even need to exist? I think a nice Fchat item such as a hat, polo shirt, jacket, keyring, etc. would be a better bonus for subscribing.

One other item : Velostrada should have its own ongoing discussion forum, displayed under General Forums, with the current issue up on the board and past ones archived for reference

There is not the participation and wealth of information (and misinformation) on that site, compared to this site. Or for that matter as on several other Ferrari sites.
I don't know if the owners site and forum has not achieved critical mass, or whether the participation of interested non-owners and other fans is needed.

    Cheers

It would also be a logistics nightmare for Rob, so many owners on here buy and sell cars, so what happens if you're an owner and sell your car to buy another, would you have to stop posting in the owners forum when you sold you car, and then rejoin when your new one arrived ? What if it was a month or 6 months, it would be waaay too complicated.

I've helped people with TR bugs and god knows Steve and all the others have helped me out BIG TIME with my car. That's important. The people who actually own the cars are the ones who can contribute the most. After all this is FERRARI chat. Not I'm a pencil neck weasel with a Toyota Echo that gets GREAT gas mileage so listen to what I say Chat!

Ok...we have just said that once you are in the forum, your in...no removing you because your not..

Everyone acts as if by adding a new forum we have to delete the other ones...
Wake up! Fchat will still be the same place it is, JUST WITH ONE MORE FORUM.
And if it isn't popular, WHO CARES??? What is there really to lose??

And we don't NEED to open another forum for guys like Carbon, they will be automatically be given access...

As for being able to tell who owns and who does, this place always finds a way to bust the liers...i wonder sometimes if some of the most intelligent people on the planet, don't reside on this site.
