haa You should get yourself to the next run, I think there is one in October at a longer airstrip, 4 miles if memory is correct and show the rest of the spider gang that you can top 170, I spoke to a load of the spider owners on Sunday and they all reckon no spiders have made it past the low 170's. My speedo was showing low 180's and satnav 171 (still catching up) so if yours was reading 190 i reckon you should be able to show a true 178 - 180 over 4 miles.
What car are you refering to? The car that i said i saw 190 on the speedo was the 360 spider,so go read it again, and of course they go faster than 170mph. That car has now been replaced with this....F430 MB: But regarding the 355 i have always been on record as saying that i have reached just over 180mph, and i reached 169mph over the two mile run way so over a 4 mile one...... Not meaning to hijack the thread but thought it might be interesting in the context of this topic. Dr. Chad Bolles ran 171-172 in wind corrected standing start mile with his '95 6.0L Jag XJS coupe - 5-spd manual trans and some engine tweaks. Says he's hoping to nudge 180 this year. OK, back to Ferraris.
Very interesting thread, BUT DON"T get hung up on your cars speedometer. It is often way off at high speed (optimistcally so). Check out this thread, very interesting about top speed reality vs. speedo! http://www.gtasourcepage.com/88MTTopSpeed10.html
Another very interesting read, why can some car manufacturers provide accurate speedo readings and others provide way optimistic readings.
according to Road & Track : Saleen S7 205.7 mph in just 1 mile makes you wonder how fast will it go if given more road...(or at least 1.6 miles) and it's only a V8. much critiziced 2 valver per cylinder
its a 7.0 litre twin turbocharged 750hp v8 and the 1000hp hennessy did 210 and the buggatti veyron will beat both bwahahahaha
Would that be car length? From watching drags in 1/4 mile a 10mph difference is a bumper and wheel ahead.
But of course the speedo isnt always telling the truth This is a great thread, and wondered what they used for speed ?? Speedo or radar. Aaron
Great show for the 328's! I'm impressed w/ the numbers on the gtb's. Must be the drag on the roof line possibly vs. the gts. I have 157 on my 328gts (GPS). This is of course is open road and not a standing start. Were all 328 cars euro spec?
Not sure about 328 Euro or US spec as there were some LHD cars there. The previous day on the same runway a Dodge Viper (modified) ran 215mph.
Jon, Check out www.openroadracing.com or www.silverstateclassic.com Those events are in Nevada. There is also an event in Texas and Nebraska. I have the links if you like. Rick
The Sandhills Open Road Challenge does a standing mile drag race in conjunction with their road race. (this year, it was shortened to 3/4 mile because it was raining on the day scheduled for the 1 mile race, and they had to use part of the road course instead of the normal 1 mile venue. www.sorcrace.com
