A few weeks back, some kids broke into (tried) our race transporter by going through the window before the alarm went off.

The police came out and took fingerprints.

Now how in the hell do you get the black powder off?????? We've tried everything and at a shop like ours, we have endless supplies of all types of chemicals.

    Please help?????????

I know this maybe obvious, but did you ask the police if they knew how to remove it?

Painted aluminum panels on one side and the other as well as an aluminum painted door. All painted gloss white. It came off the glass very easy. Nothing touches the painted areas. Things tried:

    water
    soap & water
    simple green
    Zep purple industrial floor cleaner
    parts cleaner "varsol"
    WD 40
    Goof Off
    3M Adhesive remover
    nail polish
    brake clean
    laquer thinner
    acetone
    rubbing compound

We are about to wet sand and buff......what a freak'n pain.

On Saturday I was wondering why your transporter was all dirty around the window while the rest was spotless. Now it make sense.
I hope they didn't get anything.

I have some of this stuff on a cabinet and picture frame from a robbery about 4 years ago still. Haven't found anything to get it off. Here's hoping!

We were lucky. I thought the window was alarmed like every other opening on the transporter.....and it's wired into the shop building alarm system. They cut the silicone bead holding the window in the frame....they did not even break the glass?....climbed into the lounge, dumped out my duffel and one of the crew....they were going to use the duffel to carry stuff....they got a pair of my Tevas and a SawsAll....then got spooked and booged.

We had just returned from Road America and the transporter was loaded....T70, 962 a few RSRs all of mine and my clients driving gear, video cameras, radios, stereo, Snap On tools out the wazoo......they got nothing.

Needless to say I had a few words with my alarm company which quickly took care of the system adding the necessary trip alarms and motion detectors. Could have been really ugly.

Thanks.....the transporter is "powder coated" so that may be a reason. I just don't want to spend the time wet sanding and buffing if we don't have too.

I'll be waiting for her expert advise.

    Vaseline.

Finger print powder has mica and carbon in it, so it can be a bit abrasive. Use your fingers first, if that doesn't work, try a towel.

That's her best guess. After all, as she said, she watched them put it on, never really worried about how to get it off!!!

Since it is designed to stick to oil, an oily substance might work best, like vasoline!!!

    GOOD LUCK.

    Found this:

The SIRCHIE Fingerprint Co. of Youngsville NC 1(800) 366-7311
carries an item called "Powder Foam Away". This stuff works well on
non-porous surfaces. It actually "floats" the powder residue up & away
from the surface it's used on. [Item # PC-100]
Please note: I am NOT affiliated with SIRCHIE in any way/shape/form.
I just believe in credit where it's due.
Actually makes me wonder...maybe regular shaving cream might do the
    same thing?
    For what it's worth....

I was in the florida keys and someone opened the sliding glass door which wasn't locked and took some stuff. Cops came first thing in the morning and told us to put down a towel while they were looking for fingerprints because if the powder gets on anything it wont come off.

So i dunno if it will come off.

    *shaking empty bottle*

Darn, it's expensive too! Works great on shopping cart scratches and those pesky Texas bugs on the hood....I took it from a Pontiac Body Shop, it's made for base coat/clear coat finishes IIRC.....

    "contains no silicone or wax"............
