cool thread. i dont agree with the "owners only area" and i have had 3, and own 2 now. i say may the whole site pay to post. folks can lurk, and learn but you must join to post AND HAVE A PROFILE FILLED OUT. 'Reaper.....out .
Bad idea. It's like having a democracy, but only allowing blue eyed people to vote. The internet by definition is the ultimate global democracy. Anyone with access can get in and that's the way it should be. Owners are well served by the Ferrari Owners site : www.owners.ferrari.com
Amen My owning a 330 GT gives me no special insight to other Ferraris! Even less than some non-owner who has lusted after some particular model (maybe an F40, for example) and researched it, looked at them, and maybe even got a ride in one. But will never afford one. If it is really important, instead of just listing our cars in the profile, maybe we need to list them in each post. Readers who only want to listen to other Ferrari owners then can skip through the thread. And it will be self policing - any spurious listing would be "outed" in a hurry, given the expertice that is present on this board. Cheers Warren (a mere 330 GT)
I think this may be an idea to be implemented: people tend to take something more seriously if they put more than their 2cents into it. I think an owners' only forum unneccesarily divides the camp and may encourage more posers to spring forth. BTW in a Democracy, only citizens vote: not merely inhabitants [los illegals]
It's a good idea, too bad the bulletin board software does not support it. So, below is my score. I've only posted 8 times so far. Since I've only recently mentally overwhelmed reason (i.e. in the market,) I've asked a lot more questions than I have supplied answers; and I already made one smart-a** post. I understand why members of any public board would want a higher signal to noise ratio. It just seems to go with the territory. I hope I don't get separated from the body of knowledge before my hunt is successful. (I also hope attachments work since I have not tried this before on this board. ) Edit: Make that two smart-a** posts. (Short memory.) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, I'm pretty new to these online communities. What do they call people who spend a lot of time in the community, then wait for the opportunity to jump on others? By the way, I haven't posted a thread since someone was a smart a** Oh, if someone attacks another for what they are doing, does that make them a ---k---d or what?
Non-F-car owner here. Sometimes it's those newbie questions ("How much did you pay to maintain your 348 this year...") that have been most helpful to me, as someone considering a Ferrari as my next weekend toy. Especially when an experienced 348 owner answers them. My history teacher in high school used to say he hated 'honors' sections - they segregate all the smart kids and leave the rest to wallow in their ignorance.
Well, this counts me out. Of course, this was probably Erik's plan all along. As WC Fields said, "I don't want to be a member of any club who will have me."
Busted. Sorry about that. Just kidding. I think it was interesting to see some of the comments that came out of this. I agree that it would be a nightmare to try and enforce. I guess I'll just get back to work with the FChat police and recalibrate my BS detector. A mod can close this thread as far as I'm concerned.
I think the most useful thing about an owners forum would be the fact that owners could meet up with other owners...I for one, do not know 1 owner in my area, and maybe there are some lurking..but I will never know...because I don't want to post my address, and maybe they dont either...its a chance to allow a little more privacy...Fchat still stays like it is.....Fchat...but I think an owner's forum would promote meeting up and driving this cars while still maintaining some of the privacy that some owners would like... Right now...without sacrificing privacy, the only way to meet up with other owners is through PMs...which get tough to delete and track and 'did i respond' and yada yada yada..
As for enforcement, your either KNOWN to be an owner or your not in...Take your car to an event as most have...you will know from there...and if you don't care that much then don't join the forum...simple...
