I have now had my 430 manual for 5.5 days, 350 miles so far. I did not own a 360, so cannot compare. However, I can say the shifter is a delight by any measure. It is smooth and slick yet retains the satisfying mechanical feel of a traditional Ferrari gated shifter. Far better than I dared to hope for! I feel sorry for paddle worshippers!

I was driving the 360 manual for about 3 years and now i am driving my bosses F430s. The coupe we have had for about 3-4 months and the spider about 2 months, and these to are manual. The gear box feels just the same as the 360s to me, the same pressure to select the gear and nice and smooth in its actions. find it hard to compare gear ratios becourse there is that much more power. In fact if you rule out the exta power the 430 feels like a 360 from the point of view of the manual gear box. I have not driven an F1 f430 yet, so i dont know what thats like.

I had felt that the 6 speed 360 was the best shifting car I have ever driven. I am told that they did indeed improve the tranny for the 430, so I am eagerly awaiting the chance to drive one.

I have driven an F1 equipped 430, and I have to say that they have worked out all of the negatives associated with the F1. I could find no faults with it, other than the fact that it was an F1! Having said that, I would still go with the 6 speed in the 430.

I am a manual transmission kind of guy, but when I drove the CS's F1 transmission, something felt "right" about it. I couldn't really fault it. I wonder what the F430 F1 is like?

You guys are killing me - I am in the queue for a manual F430 Spider and my dealer has been telling me I can get the next F1 faster if I wanted to (as per his allocations).

I am so friggin torn - is the F1 really that good (even without launch control in the US)? Would someone who has insisted on a manual really enjoy the F1??

I think it depends on what market your in. Over in the UK the manual is king i think in the US it may be the F1/auto. I think here in the UK we are somtimes stuck in our ways:)

This is info that has been posted here, but it bears repeating: the manual 430 and the F1 are considered seperate models. The ratio is supposed to be 80/20 f1/stick. Ferrari claims the F1 tranny is necessary to tap into the full potential of the car due to the interactive nature of e-diff and TC with the F1. Of course those wishing for a stick shift will gladly sacrifice a few theoretical tenths of a second for the driving experience.

how often do you drive your 430? I drive my 355 daily, and am starting to like the 430, therefore have been considering the upgrade - but how do you think a 430 would do daily?

I live in the southern coast of Spain, and the climate allows a Ferrari to really be driven at anytime, as often as desired. My schedule is not very busy, usually one or two stops a day with the car, so I am not making a big commute.

If its any help to you, the F430 that we have had for 4 months is a coupe based at the Portugal Villa. The coupe was the better option becourse of the hot climate. The car is used every day by a member of staff and the air con is fantastic. It has never given any problems and has currently 3000miles on it.

I agree -- it's the best version so far and that's how I felt about my CS F1 tranny until my first drive in the 430.

    Ninostrada,
I have now put 600 miles on it in 7 days. I think it would be good daily driver in warm climates. A good ride, even in sport, excellent A/C.

I am glad L/C isnt in the US model. It fries the clutch, but maybe they have worked out all the kinks in it?

Try driving the F1 and see what you think. If you really want the manual, why not go for it? Your car will defenatly be more rare, thats for sure. If its worth it to you, then its worth waiting the proper amount of time for.

Is the F1 in the 430 an improved transmission design or is it improved firmware for the same transmission as the 360?

I happend to of driven both, back to back. Pick the manual if you want driving pleasure, the F1 if your looking for an automatic........

Either way, you can't go wrong.

dan, the 360 6speed was very nice...the best shifting ferrari for sure, but i still could have had smoother shifts and shorter throws compared to the best manuals, such as the new 911s, the honda s2000,..but it still is great...it is notchy into 2nd until warmed up, but i think this is a quark of mid engine cars....the 430 tranny has to be beefed up to take the extra power....it is as good or better than the 360, then i am all over it...f1 is ok, but on the street is gets a little boring to me....plus there is less to go wrong with the manual.....
