I'm trying to take an old alarm out of my 308, and there is an antenna wire that runs up under the A-pillar, then was "secured" along the top of the windshield with the antenna fork around the rear view mirror. I tried just pulling it, and the upper 50% is out, but it is stuck up under the A-pillar.

How do you take the larger trim piece off the A-pillar? The small, ruler like trim piece just pops off. There are 2 rivot looking things with a circular hole that seem to be holding the big piece on, also 3 clips that dont seem to do much. I'd post a pic, but I'm having wife/digital camera issues (dont ask...).

    thanks!

    Spike308,

I had to remove the A-pillar trim when I recovered the dash on my 78 GTS. There were 2-pieces. The first, an ivory? colored piece that is retained by 3 clips and is removed by carefully prying it off. The second piece is a black vinyl coated piece of aluminum that is retained by 3-screws that should be visible once the ivory colored piece is removed. Remove these screws and the piece lifts right off.

on my 84QV, they are not standard screws holding it on... they look like rivets, with a central circular hole in them

I believe they are philips head on my trim, perhaps equivalent to #4's. You might take a fine pick or needle and explore the head. It could be paint makes it appear to be a rivit and some careful picking will reveal the cross slot of a philips head screw. Alternatively, if it's really a rivit, I see no harm in drilling off the head, removing the trim, removing the balance of the rivit and replacing it with a new rivit or an appropriate screw.

First, does anyone have pics they can post?

Second, the "ruler" sized piece that is mounted in the middle of the A-pillar, that piece is retained by clips and can be removed if carefully pried off? For some reason, on another post, I was under the impression that the center "ruler" sized piece was also held in with rivets, but I could have mis-read what was posted.
